Bailey released a statement on his socials that you can read below:<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cAri is one of my dearest friends, and my support for her is unwavering. Marianne is extraordinary and one of my longest collaborators and friends,\u201d Bailey says. \u201cAfter much consideration, I have decided to also step back from Sunday in the Park with George.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThis brilliant, introspective musical has been a real passion project for me, and I feel incredibly lucky to have shared in its journey with this team. Among many things, the story explores the deep connection between George and Dot, a beautiful, devoted pairing, and I so look forward to seeing what the team, and the two actors who will now take on these roles, will create with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI wish the very best to the entire company with what will no doubt be an incredible production, and I will be cheering them on as they continue this journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tLast December, Deadline\u2019s Baz Bamigboye reported that Grande and Bailey were\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/12\/ariana-grande-jonathan-bailey-sunday-in-the-park-with-george-1236649423\/\">thinking of re-teaming<\/a>\u00a0on a production of\u00a0Sunday in the Park with George, with Empire Street Productions and London\u2019s Barbican Centre confirming the next month that they\u2019d be\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/07\/jonathan-bailey-ariana-grande-stephen-sondheim-1236682640\/\">staging the musical<\/a>\u00a0with the pair, set for a summer 2027 opening. When Grande recently departed the project, the show\u2019s producers were previously\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/07\/jonathan-bailey-ariana-grande-stephen-sondheim-1236682640\/\">holding off on ticket sales<\/a>\u00a0until after Grande\u2019s tour concludes on Sept. 1 at London\u2019s O2 Arena. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWith Bailey and Grande now departing, it is unknown what will happen now with both stars departing project.
