(WKYT) – A southern Kentucky hospital treated more than 100 people after the tornado Friday night into Saturday morning.

CHI St. Joseph London saw a surge of people in the hours after the deadly tornado.

One person passed away there, but most were treated and released. We’re told 11 were sent to other hospitals and four were admitted.

One woman who was treated there initially is now in intensive care at UK Hospital. Her family says it’s a miracle she survived being thrown from her home.

“You know, I am sure she doesn’t even know what happened,” says her son, Will Wolfe.

Wolfe’s mother, Virginia, suffered numerous serious injuries.

“A chest contusion, a head injury, ending up having a brain bleed, possible broken ribs,” Wolfe said.

She’s among the 83 people who were rushed to the London Hospital in the hours after the twister, and over the course of the weekend, more than 100 sought care. They got there in whatever way they could.

“Our first notification of the damage was individuals coming in their personal cars before EMS was able to mobilize to begin rescues,” said Dr. Shelley Stanko of CHI St. Joseph.

Dr. Stanko says they treated everyone from infants to the elderly.

“We were prepared. I would describe the environment as intense but calm. Everything else is in a nearby debris pile. Her son says she landed in a field, in a completely opposite direction of where the home ended up.

Her son firmly believes a first responder saved her life.

“She was found by a state trooper. Transported to St. Joseph London,” said Wolfe.

Her home is gone, along with many of her neighbors, leaving them with questions without answers. Her home is in the Sunshine Hills neighborhood, but she was found behind that area on Caden Lane.

Copyright 2025 WKYT.
