The information known so far about Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 does not suggest that this year will be particularly revolutionary. Now, well-known Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has also reported with his information. According to his sources, there could be at least one or two surprises.

SE 4 not planned, but ceramic

First, it seems to be certain that there will be no new entry-level model this year. Most rumor mills assume that an SE 4, as a successor to the SE 3, will be released later. Gurman himself does not even mention the affordable watch in his report. So it should remain with two models – the aforementioned Series 12 as the successor to the Series 11 in two sizes, plus an Ultra 4.

The main innovation is expected to be faster chips, which, at least for the Series 12, will feature a new case design available at an additional cost. Apple is reportedly bringing back the ceramic watch. According to Gurman, Apple has tested white and dark gray color configurations, internally codenamed “iceman.” New bands are also expected to match, including new colors. According to Gurman, Apple has also investigated an improvement in heart rate measurement. The Apple Watch is said to continuously track pulse, not just every few minutes as is currently the case outside sports sessions. This should make tracking more accurate throughout the day and night, as various algorithms depend on heart rate.

Software restructuring

Gurman also claims to have heard that Apple is working on a restructuring of its Fitness and Health app, which is intended to provide more “wellness-related data,” similar to competitors like Whoop or Oura. However, it is unclear when these improvements will arrive. Finally, Apple is said to be working on a major redesign of its smartwatches, whose standard form factor has hardly changed since its introduction in 2015. However, this is not expected before next year.

Additionally, Apple might also offer a tracker without a display, which is becoming increasingly popular. Google recently introduced a (initially) subscription-free device here with the Fitbit Air. Apple’s keynote starts on September 9th (Wednesday) at 7 PM German time. Mac & i and heise online will offer a live ticker as usual.

      Empfohlener redaktioneller Inhalt

Mit Ihrer Zustimmung wird hier ein externer Preisvergleich (heise Preisvergleich) geladen.

        Preisvergleich jetzt laden

(bsc)

Don’t miss any news – follow us on
Facebook,
LinkedIn or
Mastodon.

This article was originally published in

        German.

It was translated with technical assistance and editorially reviewed before publication.
