Donald Trump has scolded Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, declaring he was \u201chappy\u201d to see the couple return to the UK.<\/p>\n
The US President was asked about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during an exchange with reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
He said he \u201cwas not a fan\u201d and was \u201chappy\u201d to hear the couple had left the US and returned to Britain, before turning his attention to Prince Harry and Meghan\u2019s relationship with the royal family.<\/p>\n

By continuing you agree to our Terms<\/a> and Privacy Policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n Mr Trump spoke warmly of his own connections with the late Queen Elizabeth II and Kind Charles, saying he had known the King for many years.<\/p>\n \u201cLook, I had a very good relationship with the Queen, really good, I got to know her very well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n The President went on to praise the King as a \u201cgreat guy\u201d while criticising Meghan\u2019s treatment of the royal family.<\/p>\n \u201cI knew him as Prince Charles and King Charles. I\u2019ve known him for a long time, he\u2019s great, (a) great guy and I thought they (Meghan and Prince Harry) treated the royal family with great disrespect,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t like it, I didn\u2019t like the way she acted. I thought she was terribly disrespectful to the Queen, to King Charles and, I don\u2019t know, maybe I\u2019m different, I wouldn\u2019t have taken them back.<\/p>\n \u201cIf I were the royal family, I would not have taken them back.\u201d<\/p>\n Prince Harry and Meghan stepped away from their senior royal roles in 202 and subsequently established their lives in Montecito, California.<\/p>\n Their decision to leave the royal fold was followed by a series of public interviews and statement about their experiences within the monarchy.<\/p>\n Mr Trump has a history of making critical remarks about Meghan. Public friction between the two dates back to before the Duchess\u2019 married into the royal family when she criticised Mr Trump during the US Presidential campaign in 2016.<\/p>\n Meghan labelled Mr Trump \u201cdivisive\u201d and \u201cmisogynistic\u201d during that campaign. She also said she would consider moving to Canada if he won the election.<\/p>\n When told Meghan had previously spoken negatively about him, the President said he was not aware of the remarks.<\/p>\n \u201cNo, I didn\u2019t know that she was nasty,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n Mr Trump also appeared unfazed when he was told her Meghan\u2019s threat to leave the US if he won the election in 2016.<\/p>\n \u201cA lot of people are moving here,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n The Duke and Duchess of Sussex flew into Britain on a private jet with Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, on August 26.
