{"id":118397,"date":"2025-05-21T00:21:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-21T00:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/118397\/"},"modified":"2025-05-21T00:21:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T00:21:10","slug":"jelena-ostapenko-gives-her-honest-feelings-about-how-serena-williams-behaved-on-court-when-she-was-playing-tennis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/118397\/","title":{"rendered":"Jelena Ostapenko gives her honest feelings about how Serena Williams behaved on court when she was playing tennis"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Jelena Ostapenko is one of the more notably charismatic on-court players on the WTA Tour.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/jelena-ostapenko-has-just-done-something-no-wta-player-has-since-serena-williams-after-beating-aryna-sabalenka-in-the-porsche-tennis-grand-prix-final\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ostapenko won the Stuttgart title<\/a> last month, beating top two seeds <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/aryna-sabalenka\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aryna Sabalenka<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/iga-swiatek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iga Swiatek<\/a> to do so.<\/p>\n<p>The Latvian has a very dominant record over the five-time major winner in particular, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/jelena-ostapenko-shares-how-she-truly-feels-about-iga-swiatek-after-beating-her-yet-again-at-the-porsche-tennis-grand-prix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ostapenko unbeaten against Swiatek<\/a> having played her six times.<\/p>\n<p>Former world number one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/naomi-osaka-names-her-favorite-player-on-the-wta-tour-currently-even-though-they-are-polar-opposites\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Naomi Osaka recently called Ostapenko her favourite player<\/a>, but she can often divide opinion due to her on-court behaviour.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"663\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2214128321-1024x663.jpg\" alt=\"Internazionali BNL D'Italia 2025 - Day Eight. Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia reacts while playing against Jasmine Paolini of Italy in the fourth round on Day Eight of the Internazionali BNL D'Italia at Foro Italico.\" \/>Photo by Robert Prange\/Getty ImagesJelena Ostapenko gives her honest feelings about Serena Williams<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rolandgarros.com\/en-us\/article\/interview-jelena-ostapenko-ambitions-results-ranking-grand-slam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Roland Garros<\/a> ahead of the clay court major, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jelena-ostapenko\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ostapenko<\/a> was asked about her facial expressions on court.<\/p>\n<p>Ostapenko responded by suggesting that she has no intention of changing her approach, and does not enjoy watching players who do not show their emotions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI honestly always like in general, when I watch sports, I always liked emotional people, the people who always show and share their emotions,\u201d said Ostapenko.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t really like people who are just walking and just not showing much emotions, because for me, it\u2019s so boring to watch those people doing sports. So I\u2019m really like myself always on the court. And I think that\u2019s what people like about me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"626\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2210333218-1024x626.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche Tennis Grand Prix 2025 - Day 5\" class=\"wp-image-83481\" \/>Photo by Robert Prange\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>One <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WTA<\/a> player in particular who was known for expressing their emotions on court was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/features\/what-happened-when-naomi-osaka-beat-serena-williams-in-the-2018-us-open-final-which-lindsay-davenport-thought-was-odd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Serena Williams, sometimes resulting in criticism<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>However, Ostapenko believes that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/serena-williams\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Williams<\/a> is the best in that department and admitted that she was a big fan of the now retired 23-time Grand Slam champion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Serena is the best so far,\u201d said Ostapenko. \u201cShe\u2019s like all those emotions, I love them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-1205104696-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"2020 Fed Cup - Latvia v USA.
