{"id":1184415,"date":"2026-09-03T16:07:17","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T16:07:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1184415\/"},"modified":"2026-09-03T16:07:17","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T16:07:17","slug":"trump-suggests-us-wouldnt-back-britain-over-falklands-for-not-helping-me-on-iran","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1184415\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump suggests US wouldn&#8217;t back Britain over Falklands for &#8216;not helping me&#8217; on Iran"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Donald Trump has suggested he would not back the UK if Argentina threatened the Falkland Islands, because the UK was \u201cnot there to help me\u201d in Iran. <\/p>\n<p>The comments come ahead of Argentinian president and Trump ally Javier Milei <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelondoneconomic.com\/news\/president-of-argentina-to-give-national-broadcast-over-falkland-islands-409367\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">making a national televised statement late on Thursday<\/a> about the Falklands. <\/p>\n<p>This week, Trump said he was \u2018reviewing\u2019 the US\u2019s position on the Falklands, which has always been a neutral one. <\/p>\n<p>Now, the US president has suggested he would not support the UK in a dispute over the islands, as revenge for the lack of support he received for his war with Iran. <\/p>\n<p><strong>READ NEXT: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelondoneconomic.com\/politics\/trump-bought-boeing-stock-on-the-day-they-received-880-million-government-contract-409160\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trump bought Boeing stock on the day they received \u00a3880 million government contract<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=1053053503982212\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">GB News<\/a> on Thursday, Trump was asked if he would \u00a0\u201ccome to the aid\u201d of the UK over the islands. <\/p>\n<p>He replied: \u201cWell look, I was there when they had the first war.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was a long time ago, and I watched it so carefully, and you comported yourselves very well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou took it back pretty strongly, but it\u2019s a long way away. That\u2019s a big trip, it\u2019s a long way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, your country\u2019s not doing well. Don\u2019t forget, you get a big percentage of your oil from the Strait of Hormuz, and you weren\u2019t there to help me,\u201d Trump continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour country was not there to help me. We didn\u2019t need help, but I did ask Nato, and I asked your former leader, \u2018why didn\u2019t you send a couple of ships?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said we don\u2019t have any, and it was pretty sad, the whole thing. <\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cSo Nato was not there, even though they get \u2013 most of those countries get \u2013 a big portion of their oil from there.
