While resolutions are traditionally made for New Year those wanting an exciting challenge for the new academic year could train as novice boxers or MMA fighters and enjoy eight weeks free coaching for the Ultra White-Collar Boxing (WCB) and Ultra MMA November shows.<\/p>\n
Belle Isle\u2019s James Hurst, 31, heartily recommends getting involved. \u201cI\u2019ve done two boxing events and pleased to say I\u2019ve won both. In my latest I got a second-round stoppage, but the main thing is that whatever the result you can be proud you trained and then got in there and showed what you\u2019re made of, irrespective of your age or gender.\u201d<\/p>\n
Father of four James works as a roofer and freely admits that he\u2019s \u201calways loved a scrap. With Ultra you do it legally and as safely as possible. I raised funds for Andy\u2019s Man Club who do such a quality job in assisting men with mental health problems. This is vital work given all the ongoing pressures of life.\u201d<\/p>\n
Participants must be novices and able to attend two weekly evening training sessions at Bad Company gym in Bramley where training starts week beginning September 21st. The commitment is to sell a minimum of ten tickets to the shows and raise funds for a charity of the participant\u2019s choice.<\/p>\n
\u201cStarting out can often be a bit daunting but everyone is in the same situation sharing the same goals and ambitions,\u201d continued James. \u201cThere were about 30 in our group, and we all found that you soon make new friends and bond over the training. One of those new friends is the person you\u2019ll have it out with on the show.\u201d<\/p>\n
The WCB show takes place at The Royal Armouries New Dock on Saturday 21st November. The MMA show is at the same venue the following Saturday, 28th November. The July WCB show was attended by 900 people and April\u2019s MMA show saw over 500 tickets sold. The Leeds Ultra shows have already raised \u00a3 860 thousand in charity donations.<\/p>\n
Both male and female novice fighters aged 18 and above on the day training starts are welcome.<\/p>\n
