{"id":1186225,"date":"2026-09-04T15:07:28","date_gmt":"2026-09-04T15:07:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1186225\/"},"modified":"2026-09-04T15:07:28","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T15:07:28","slug":"activists-call-for-bristol-weighting-to-help-council-staff-with-cost-of-living","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1186225\/","title":{"rendered":"Activists call for \u2018Bristol weighting\u2019 to help council staff with cost of living"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.localgov.co.uk\/Image\/Activists-call-for-Bristol-weighting-to-help-council-staff-with-cost-of-living\/shutterstock_255904559311\/jpg\" alt=\"Activists call for \u2018Bristol weighting\u2019 to help council staff with cost of living image\" class=\"img-responsive img-full\"\/>Bristol City Council \u00a9 trabantos \/ Shutterstock.com.Local Unison activists are urging Bristol City Council to investigate introducing a \u2018Bristol weighting\u2019 payment for all council employees, to reflect the city&#8217;s high cost of living.<\/p>\n<p>They say a scheme similar to London weighting could ease financial pressure on public-sector workers and encourage other employers to follow suit.<\/p>\n<p>ONS figures cited by the activists show Bristol renters spend 45% of their wages on rent, while average house prices are 10.1 times median earnings.<\/p>\n<p>The union members said some public-service workers are relying on food banks or shared accommodation and called on the council to assess the costs and feasibility of extra payments.<\/p>\n<p>Comment<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Tony Dyer, leader of Bristol City Council, said: \u2018Bristol City Council is a major employer within our city and became a Living Wage employer in 2018.
