A \u00a370m-rated winger can complete his \u2018dream\u2019 transfer to Liverpool<\/a> in January, and the move could coincide with Cody Gakpo<\/a>\u2019s belated sale.<\/p>\n

Liverpool<\/a> pushed to sign three new wingers this summer, though wound up with just two. Victor Munoz and Bradley Barcola arrived, but if Liverpool had got their way, one of Ismaila Sarr or Yankuba Minteh would have joined late in the window too.<\/p>\n

The Reds lodged offers for both players, bidding \u00a350m for Sarr, and \u00a350m then \u00a360m for Minteh.<\/p>\n

Both players operate on the right wing, though of the pair, Minteh<\/a> appeared to be the better fit given he\u2019s left-footed.<\/p>\n

Brighton<\/a> reportedly hiked the price up to around \u00a380m in the final days<\/a>, which ultimately saw Liverpool cool their interest. Per the BBC, Brighton\u2019s valuation has dropped to \u00a370m now the window has closed.<\/p>\n

However, comments made by Minteh\u2019s manager at Brighton, Fabian Hurzeler, strongly suggest the deal could be revived in the winter window.<\/p>\n

Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side\u2019s clash with Leeds United this weekend, Hurzeler said<\/a>: \u201cIf the whole team is successful and the individual shines then Yankuba will get a lot of attention again and he can then maybe fulfil his dream in the next transfer window.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liverpool currently have five senior wingers on the books \u2013 Barcola, Munoz, Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha and Federico Chiesa, the latter of which was not included in their Champions League squad<\/a> for the group phase.<\/p>\n

As such, a mid-season move for Minteh would only make sense if a winger, namely Gakpo<\/a>, were to depart.<\/p>\n

And according to a report from The Athletic<\/a>, it\u2019s entirely possible transfer interest in Gakpo kicks up once again around the turn of the year.<\/p>\n

Cody Gakpo could leave in January<\/strong><\/p>\n

They stated:\u00a0\u2018There\u2019s a chance of renewed interest in Cody Gakpo following Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur\u2019s pursuit this summer.<\/p>\n

\u2018Perhaps a sale would make more sense in the winter if another attacker is hired, and by then it will be clear if Munoz or Barcola can operate successfully on the right.\u2019<\/p>\n

As mentioned, the two clubs that pursued Gakpo were Spurs and Man City. Gakpo agreed personal terms with Tottenham before ultimately deciding to join City.<\/p>\n

However, Liverpool pulled the plug on the Dutchman\u2019s \u00a380m switch to the Etihad after failing to sign Sarr or Minteh.<\/p>\n

That resulted in Man City buying Iliman Ndiaye from Everton instead, while Tottenham went for Chelsea\u2019s Mykhailo Mudryk on loan.<\/p>\n

In theory, both Spurs and City would still benefit from Gakpo\u2019s arrival in January.<\/p>\n

Mudryk is only at Tottenham on loan and expectations are low<\/a> given he\u2019s not played professionally for nearly two years.<\/p>\n

Part of City\u2019s reasoning for pursuing Gakpo was his ability to cover for Erling Haaland in the striker position.<\/p>\n

Enzo Maresca\u2019s side now lack a viable deputy to Haaland having offloaded Omar Marmoush to Spurs.
