Manchester Piccadilly’s long-stay car park, on Broad Street, will close on Friday night for temporary repairs.

Network Rail said the car park, which is operated by APCOA, will close to all vehicles from 6pm on Friday, September 4, so vital work on the concrete structure and link bridge can take place.

In a statement, Network Rail urged anyone with a vehicle parked in the building to collect it as soon as possible. From 6pm, it will be exit only.

Click here to get the biggest stories straight to your inbox in our Daily Newsletter

“Customers with future bookings are being advised to contact APCOA by using the details on their confirmation email to arrange for a refund,” said Network Rail in a statement.

“All cars will need to be removed from the site to allow Network Rail teams to install temporary netting to the underside of the concrete decks of the structure. That’s because in recent weeks some ceiling material has deteriorated and could become loose. As a precautionary measure the protective netting is being installed. It will take up to three weeks and once complete the car park can reopen.”

A road closure is in place between Store Street and Travis Street for scaffolding and will remain in place for seven days.

Manchester Piccadilly(Image: Jason Roberts /Manchester Evening News)

Margaret Edge, Manchester Piccadilly station manager for Network Rail, said: “We’re sorry to passengers and station users for the short-notice closure of Manchester Piccadilly’s long-stay car park while we carry out these temporary measures to the ceilings inside.

“We appreciate this will be disruptive for people and we will be working as fast as we can to install the netting and getting the car park back into use.
