A private ultrasound clinic giving parents early glimpses of their babies has been praised for its \u201cwelcoming, supportive\u201d environment in its latest report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Womb with a View, on Louth Road in Grimsby<\/a>, was praised for its ability to work with patients who were feeling anxious and make people feel \u201cinformed and supported\u201d. The report, released on Wednesday, rated the service Good overall.<\/p>\n

The clinic is a family-run business, headed up by husband and wife team Emily and Tom Bishop<\/a>. The clinic opened in September 2023 and this was its first full CQC inspection. Clinical director and registered manager Emily said the small family business<\/a> is \u201cgoing well\u201d and the team is \u201creally pleased with the results\u201d. The service was inspected in June, when the team was given just a couple of days\u2019 notice before CQC inspectors spent a day at the clinic, speaking with patients and reviewing hundreds of documents.<\/p>\n

Mother-of-four Emily was inspired to set up Womb with a View during her own pregnancies. \u201cI work in ultrasound and when I had my children there was nowhere local for the type of thing that we do,\u201d she said. About 50% of the clinic’s services involve early scans, which is \u201creally important for a lot of people\u201d. \u201cYou\u2019re not getting your NHS scan until 12-14 weeks. There’s a lot of anxiety there and people who\u2019ve had previous losses are desperate to get some reassurance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following the glowing report, Emily and the team announced a new clinic in Boston, due to open in winter of this year. The new clinic will be a joint venture with midwife sonographer Jo and will be a midwife sonographer-led clinic.<\/p>\n

The CQC report gives providers a rating in five categories, assessing whether the service is safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led. The regulator then issues an overall rating. Womb with a View was rated as Good in all categories. The report said \u201cstaff provided care in a welcoming, supportive and person-centred environment\u201d, and people felt \u201clistened to, informed and reassured during their appointments\u201d. It added that staff \u201ctreated people with kindness, compassion and respect and responded sensitively when people were anxious or distressed\u201d.<\/p>\n

Womb with a View\u2019s leadership was said to have \u201coversight of quality and safety and demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement\u201d. Staff also \u201cspoke positively of the culture\u201d. Inspectors found the service \u201cworked effectively with other healthcare providers\u2026 to support continuity of care\u201d.<\/p>\n

When assessing whether the service was safe, inspectors found there to be a \u201cproactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty\u201d and that staff felt \u201cable to discuss concerns openly with the registered manager\u201d, particularly following distressing appointments. Staff\u2019s \u201cattitudes and behaviours when interacting with people were discreet, respectful and responsive\u201d.<\/p>\n

Feedback from patients was \u201cconsistently positive\u201d. Service users said staff \u201ctook time to listen to them\u201d and \u201crespond to their individual needs\u201d. This was highlighted especially when patients felt anxious. \u201cThis helped people feel informed and supported when making decisions about using the service,\u201d the report concluded.<\/p>\n

Emily said: \u201cIt was quite a long wait for the result to come back so it\u2019s been a stressful couple of months. We would love to thank our valued patients and families who visit us for their amazing support throughout.”<\/p>\n
