{"id":1187255,"date":"2026-09-05T04:37:47","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T04:37:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1187255\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T04:37:47","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T04:37:47","slug":"6-hot-button-issues-farage-would-have-to-thrash-out-with-brussels-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1187255\/","title":{"rendered":"6 hot-button issues Farage would have to thrash out with Brussels \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Currently, these students can access financial assistance and pay \u201chome status\u201d fees, which are far cheaper than those paid by international students.<\/p>\n<p>This would be another breach of Britain&#8217;s withdrawal agreement with the EU, and Brussels would likely respond by launching dispute proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>6. <strong>ECHR membership<\/strong> and the TCA<\/p>\n<p>Reform has made quitting the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) a flagship promise, claiming Britain\u2019s departure from the agreement is essential if it is to implement its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reformparty.uk\/policies\/operation-restoring-justice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">domestic policies<\/a> without constraint, such as deporting all migrants who enter the U.K. irregularly.<\/p>\n<p>That appears to breach the wide-ranging <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=uriserv%3AOJ.L_.2021.149.01.0010.01.ENG&amp;toc=OJ%3AL%3A2021%3A149%3ATOC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) <\/a>Johnson struck with the bloc after Britain left the EU in 2020. <\/p>\n<p>While the ECHR is distinct from the EU, the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=uriserv%3AOJ.L_.2021.149.01.0010.01.ENG&amp;toc=OJ%3AL%3A2021%3A149%3ATOC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TCA <\/a>agrees to the \u201cprotection of fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals\u201d in the ECHR.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The TCA also notes the \u201cimportance of giving effect to the rights and freedoms in that convention domestically.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also the Northern Ireland peace agreement to think about.
