Rory McIlroy celebrated his Masters win over a few glasses of the finest wine thanks to close friend Shane Lowry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

McIlroy made history by completing a career Grand Slam by winning the elusive Masters<\/a> last month, eleven years after scooping his last major.<\/p>\n

And as expected Lowry was there to take it all in alongside his pal at Augusta and gave McIlroy a huge hug for his efforts.<\/p>\n

At that point, the celebrations were just beginning but with Lowry close by, the party was always going to be turned up a notch.<\/p>\n

Later in the evening, Lowry met with Augusta National\u2019s sommelier \u2013 a wine and golf expert.<\/p>\n

His plan was to find out what vintage bottles were in the wine cellar that sits beneath Augusta National\u2019s clubhouse.<\/p>\n

Some of the world\u2019s finest wines are stored there with a 1990 Ch\u00e2teau Lafite Rothschild among the favourites among its members.<\/p>\n

It is described as a legendary Bordeaux that, according to the auction house, Christie\u2019s, is \u201ccharacterized with intense blackcurrant flavors and aromas that develop into pencil lead, cedar and cigar box with age.\u201d<\/p>\n

Such is its splendour, Jack Nicklaus was handed cases of the 1947 and \u201852 Ch\u00e2teau Lafite, only to later store them in wine coolers at his Florida home which subsequently spoiled the taste.<\/p>\n

\u201cExpensive lesson,\u201d he said after his error of judgement. \u201cI ended up with high-priced vinegar.\u201d<\/p>\n

But there was no such mistake from Lowry who wanted to toast his friend’s historic victory with something special.<\/p>\n

After asking if he could purchase a case or two, the sommelier replied: \u201c Mr Lowry, \u201cwe don\u2019t allow people to take wine out of the club,\u201d as recited by McIlroy.<\/p>\n

But Lowry\u2019s persistence eventually paid off and he was afforded the chance to buy one case of 1990 Ch\u00e2teau Lafite Rothschild.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that\u2019s what we had that night to celebrate, \u201c McIlory added. \u201cThat was a very nice gift. He bought it, and he brought it to my rental house that night and we had a few glasses.\u201d<\/p>\n

For context, a bottle of the vintage wine starts at a whopping $1,000 online rising up to $3,000 or even $4,000\u2026and that\u2019s if you can find one.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrices are always all over the map because they don\u2019t have exclusive importers like most wines,\u201d said Paul Einbund, a sommelier and winemaker told Golf.com<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are so famous and sought after that they can say no to exclusives.\u201d<\/p>\n
