{"id":118766,"date":"2025-05-21T03:36:17","date_gmt":"2025-05-21T03:36:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/118766\/"},"modified":"2025-05-21T03:36:17","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T03:36:17","slug":"space-mystery-as-never-before-seen-pulsing-signal-detected-from-inside-our-galaxy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/118766\/","title":{"rendered":"Space mystery as never before seen &#8216;pulsing&#8217; signal detected from inside our galaxy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Scientists have detected a mysterious pulsing signal from a star within our galaxy that has left experts baffled.<\/p>\n<p>The unexplained pulses were first spotted on 14 May, 2023, by retired Nasa scientist Richard Stanton whilst observing a sun-like star called HD 89389.<\/p>\n<p>Located approximately 100 light-years from Earth in the constellation Ursa Major, the star has been observed emitting the unusual signal on three separate occasions since its initial discovery.<\/p>\n<p>The signal has several unique characteristics that have puzzled scientists.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"5ddce\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"28668aca1a9d5d21a1192409974f5fa2\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%202093%201432'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/the-milky-way.jpg\" width=\"2093\" height=\"1432\" alt=\"The Milky Way\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Scientists have detected a mysterious pulsing signal from a star within our own galaxy that has left experts baffled<\/p>\n<p>Getty<\/p>\n<p>It consists of two fast, identical pulses occurring 4.4 seconds apart, with a distinctive &#8220;brighter-fainter-brighter&#8221; pattern that makes the star &#8220;partially disappear in a tenth of a second&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Stanton noted: &#8220;In over 1,500 hours of searching, no single pulse resembling these has ever been detected.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The fine structure of light between the peaks of the first pulse repeats almost exactly in the second pulse, a behaviour that scientists cannot currently explain.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Stanton, a veteran of NASA&#8217;s Jet Propulsion Laboratory who worked on the Voyager missions, has been conducting his own search for extraterrestrial intelligence from Big Bear, California.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"be244\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"49408fa5ad08e575246c5e1b9c43648e\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%203000%201996'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/seti-project.jpg\" width=\"3000\" height=\"1996\" alt=\"SETI project\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The SETI project started out of the the Greenbank Observatory in West Bank, Virginia, more than 60 years ago<\/p>\n<p>Getty<\/p>\n<p>Unlike traditional SETI surveys that use radio antennas, Stanton looks for pulses of light that might indicate laser communications from advanced civilisations.<\/p>\n<p>Stanton said: &#8220;None of these explanations are really satisfying at this point.
