{"id":1188442,"date":"2026-09-05T20:14:20","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T20:14:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1188442\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T20:14:20","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T20:14:20","slug":"primetime-reviews-reaction-to-new-robert-pattinson-a24-movie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1188442\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Primetime&#8217; Reviews: Reaction To New Robert Pattinson A24 Movie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tReviews are rolling in for A24\u2019s new movie Primetime, which is debuting at the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/venice\/\" id=\"auto-tag_venice\" data-tag=\"venice\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Venice<\/a> Film Festival today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/robert-pattinson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_robert-pattinson\" data-tag=\"robert-pattinson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Robert Pattinson<\/a> stars in the Lance Oppenheim-directed movie about the controversial U.S. show\u00a0To Catch a Predator, fronted by Chris Hansen, and how it ended badly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe true-crime program, part of\u00a0Dateline NBC, chronicled Hansen\u2019s efforts to out suspected child predators, with the help of law enforcement and a team of decoys pretending to be minors online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe early notices are largely positive for the dark drama, with Pattinson (and the rest of the cast), in particular, coming in for high praise. The film\u2019s early Rotten Tomatoes score sits at a healthy 92%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201c<a style=\"font-style: italic\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/primetime\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Primetime<\/a>\u00a0is a film about the way populism fuels moral decadence \u2014 but in such a subtle way that its proponents don\u2019t realize it,\u201d writes Deadline\u2019s Damon Wise. \u201cIt\u2019s an intense and sometimes dizzyingly meta journey,\u201d he says, before adding about its protagonist: \u201cDelivering a performance that the director describes as a mixture of Jerry Maguire and Count Dracula, Robert Pattinson may finally be entering the Christian Bale period of his career, assuming the Academy responds to such dark material (and they didn\u2019t take to 2014\u2019s\u00a0Nightcrawler, perhaps the closest recent comparison).\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe Playlist sparked to the film, writing: \u201cRobert Pattinson is monomaniacal, magnetic and completely unhinged in Lance Oppenheim\u2019s terrific drama\u2026Pattinson gives one of his most locked-in performances\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tNicholas Barber, writing for the BBC, is another fan, calling Pattinson \u201cextraordinary\u201d and predicts the film is \u201csure to be an Oscar contender \u2013 although it may be a controversial one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tLittle White Lies is another outlet to praise the protagonist: \u201cHollywood\u2019s premi\u00e8re purveyor of\u00a0\u200b\u2018Freaky Guy\u2019 performers, Robert Pattinson, wears Chris Hansen\u2019s skin like a\u00a0suit, affecting his selachian stare and unimpeachable insistence he\u2019s on a\u00a0mission to\u00a0\u200b\u201ccleanse the world of an ancient evil\u201d. (If it wins him a\u00a0Primetime Emmy along the way, so be it.) He\u2019s sharper than ever; while it\u2019s his larger-than-life performances that people tend to love about Pattinson, his uncanny taken on Hansen is a\u00a0career high.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAwards Watch found things to like about the movie but also had some reservations, giving it a B score: \u201cPrimetime\u00a0is perhaps most revealing when it declines to reveal anything. It recreates the machinery of \u201cTo Catch a Predator\u201d with considerable skill, but leaves its moral machinery largely untouched. The result is an entertaining and often sharply observed thriller about a television show that turned justice into spectacle \u2014 without quite deciding whether that was its achievement, its crime, or simply the way television works.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIndiewire was another B score, writing: \u201cRobert Pattinson\u00a0is a freaky freak from frame one of Lance Oppenheim\u2019s reality-TV thriller Primetime, in which the English actor stars as beleaguered American TV host Chris Hansen of To Catch A Predator fame. That means there\u2019s nowhere to go and almost no arc from beginning to end, but that doesn\u2019t make the results of this scuzzy satire any less bleakly invigorating.
