{"id":1188464,"date":"2026-09-05T20:35:21","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T20:35:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1188464\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T20:35:21","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T20:35:21","slug":"robert-pattinsons-primetime-earns-ovation-at-venice-premiere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1188464\/","title":{"rendered":"Robert Pattinson&#8217;s Primetime Earns Ovation at Venice Premiere"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/primetime\/\" id=\"auto-tag_primetime\" data-tag=\"primetime\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Primetime<\/a>,\u201d a thriller starring <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/robert-pattinson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_robert-pattinson\" data-tag=\"robert-pattinson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Robert Pattinson<\/a> as \u201cTo Catch a Predator\u201d host Chris Hansen, made its debut at the <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/venice-film-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_venice-film-festival\" data-tag=\"venice-film-festival\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Venice Film Festival<\/a> on Saturday to an enthusiastic seven-minute ovation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tVenice went fully in for Pattinson\u2019s immersive performance as Hansen, the \u201cDateline\u201d journalist and host who sets out to make television history with \u201cTo Catch a Predator.\u201d And one of the biggest fans in attendance? Pattinson\u2019s partner Suki Waterhouse, who cheered perhaps loudest during the seven-minute standing ovation and leaned forward and kissed Pattinson on the lips as the crowd applauded his tour-de-force performance. (In Venice, actors are seated in the front row of the balcony and their partners must sit a row behind them.) As the ovation stretched into its sixth minute, the audience began chanting for director Lance Oppenheim and singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers, who makes her acting debut in the film. Skyler Gisondo and Merritt Wever also star.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBased on Luke Dittrich\u2019s 2007 Esquire article \u201cTonight on Dateline This Man Will Die,\u201d \u201cPrimetime\u201d follows the production of the popular series, in which Hansen attempted to confront child sexual predators in complex sting operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMassive crowds outside the Palazzo del Cinema were chanting \u201cRobert! Robert! Robert!\u201d as they baked in the sun on a brutally hot Saturday afternoon. Pattinson, Gisando and Bridgers dutifully signed autographs and posed for tons of selfies with fans while Waterhouse made small talk with producers off to the side of the action. Pattinson dabbed the sweat off his forehead with napkins before posing for a cast photo. Former NBC chief Jeff Zucker, who appears in the movie as himself, also walked the red carpet, as did producer Ari Aster.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cPrimetime\u201d marks Oppenheim\u2019s feature debut, having previously helmed acclaimed documentaries such as \u201cSome Kind of Heaven\u201d and HBO\u2019s \u201cRen Faire.\u201d A24 will release \u201cPrimetime\u201d in theaters on Sept. 25.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHansen has been vocal in his criticisms about \u201cPrimetime,\u201d saying he wasn\u2019t involved in the creative process and hadn\u2019t seen the movie. He called Pattinson\u2019s portrayal \u201coverly dramatic\u201d and questioned the studio\u2019s \u201cmotive\u201d in dramatizing the making of the hit reality series. Hansen has also stressed that \u201cPrimetime\u201d isn\u2019t a literal account of his career and that he wasn\u2019t consulted during the making of the movie. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cHe\u2019s saying things I never said and doing things I never did, and that\u2019s not who I am. I\u2019m a nice guy, except when it comes to criminals and predators,\u201d Hansen previously said. \u201cI think people should remember that it is a work of fiction, only based on real-life events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/festivals\/robert-pattinson-primetime-chris-hansen-criticism-1236852400\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">At a press conference<\/a> earlier on Saturday, Pattinson suggested that Hansen could come around once he sees the film. \u201cObviously, I hope he likes the movie,\u201d Pattinson said. \u201cThere\u2019s something electrifying about him. I would hope the amount of inspiration his character has given a lot of people for years is some kind of compliment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cPrimetime\u201d continues a banner year for Pattinson, who stars in such high-profile films as this spring\u2019s indie hit \u201cThe Drama,\u201d Christopher Nolan\u2019s summer blockbuster \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d and Denis Villeneuve\u2019s upcoming tentpole \u201cDune: Part III.\u201d And Pattinson\u2019s schedule remains packed: He jetted to Lido from London, where he is currently filming \u201cThe Batman: Part II,\u201d reprising his role as reclusive billionaire-turned-vigilante Bruce Wayne.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWhen you get the momentum going, it\u2019s strangely not that hard,\u201d Pattinson said at the presser. Plus, he joked, \u201cI just had a baby. I had no desire to go out at night.
