Prince<\/a>\u2019s estate have spoken out following some fans being concerned about AI<\/a> potentially being used on the new \u2018Timeless\u2019 album.<\/p>\n

The late singer\u2019s estate confirmed back in June that it would be sharing a collection of rare and unreleased tracks from Prince in the form of new album \u2018Timeless\u2019<\/a>. The release is made up of 10 songs from across the iconic musician\u2019s four-decade-long career, all of which had never been released before and were carefully curated by the estate.<\/p>\n

Songs on the tracklist were recorded between 1977 and 2016, and the album arrived in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of Prince\u2019s death from an accidental fentanyl overdose<\/a> at the age of 57.<\/p>\n

Now, following tracks \u2018With This Tear<\/a>\u2019 and \u2018Stone<\/a>\u2019 being released ahead of the full album arriving on August 28, Prince\u2019s estate have responded to rumours from fans that AI was used to complete the album, particularly on one song called \u2018Calabama\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs concerns have arisen regarding the credits, timing and arrangement of Prince\u2019s song \u2018Calabama\u2019, which appeared on \u2018Timeless\u2019, we are respectfully responding to provide more context and clarity,\u201d their statement on Instagram read.<\/p>\n

\u201cConsistent with Prince\u2019s songwriting and production approach on numerous previous recordings, a group of horn players who played with Prince were assembled to overdub Prince\u2019s synthesiser track with the intended horn line, and this version was released on \u2018Timeless\u2019,\u201d they added, saying that finishing touches were added posthumously, but only by real musicians.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of Prince\u2019s original recorded parts remain intact, with trombone, saxophone, and trumpet added by Greg Boyer, Adrian Crutchfield, and Lynn Grissett.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement confirmed that all of those musicians \u201chad close ties to Prince and were credited on the album packaging\u201d. They also shared that in all songs \u2013 barring \u2018Calabama\u2019 \u2013 there were \u201cno overdubs\u201d used posthumously and \u201cno AI\u201d ever used in any of Prince\u2019s music.<\/p>\n

The statement also shared that the estate plans to \u201cprovide even more details regarding the release of the music\u201d with fans for more clarity, and added that the late singer\u2019s vault is an \u201carchive of massive size and historical depth\u201d, and just because some of the music isn\u2019t finished, they don\u2019t believe that should \u201cprevent\u201d it from being available for fans.<\/p>\n

Concluding, they told fans to raise any further questions or issues regarding the music with \u201ckindness and respect\u201d going forward.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cSome may object to the completion of the unfinished portion of \u2018Calabama\u2019 (even using Prince\u2019s handpicked musicians and aligned with his creative intent) while others have been very supportive of it and the music overall (which we thank you),\u201d they wrote. \u201cIn closing, no one or two individuals are responsible for the business of Prince and we all wish to foster healthy communications within the Prince community.\u201d<\/p>\n

The announcement of the new album came midway through \u2018Prince Celebration Week\u2019, which was announced by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and ran from June 1 to 7. To mark the occasion, the city\u2019s skyline was illuminated in purple on June 6, and there were various listening sessions held at Paisley Park and downtown Minneapolis throughout the week.<\/p>\n

In other Prince news, earlier this year, the late singer\u2019s estate refused to allow his music to be used in the new Melania documentary<\/a>. The film\u2019s producer Marc Beckman shared the update, explaining in an interview that a \u201clawyer that manages the estate\u201d had got in touch, saying: \u201cPrince would never want his song associated with Donald Trump<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n
