See areas that are currently closed while repair and restoration work takes place, including the iconic 1830 Station and 1830 Warehouse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hear about the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, which opened in 1830 as the world\u2019s first steam-powered inter-city railway, and discover what life was like for its workers and passengers.<\/p>\n<p>Explore the archives<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, drop into the Research Study Area at 11.30am or 1.30pm. Expert archivists will share rare material about Beyer, Peacock and Company, one of Manchester\u2019s most important engineering businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Get creative<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Families can enjoy free, hands-on activities throughout both weekends. Design your own heritage engine, inspired by the museum\u2019s collections from Manchester and the North West.<\/p>\n<p>Discover the railway site<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Join volunteer-led introductions at 11.15am and 12.15pm on Sundays, subject to volunteer availability, to hear how Liverpool Road Station helped transform travel and trade.<\/p>\n<p>Ride a heritage bus<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enjoy free heritage bus journeys between the Science and Industry Museum, the Museum of Transport, Greater Manchester and the People\u2019s History Museum. Check the Museum of Transport website for timings.<\/p>\n<p>Visit Station Agent\u2019s House<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, 10am to 4pm, explore the Grade I listed Station Agent\u2019s House.
