Picture: Olie Myburgh<\/p>\n<p>The 62-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentonline.co.uk\/medway\/news\/tom-cruise-returns-to-kent-for-latest-movie-275553\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">landed in a private helicopter near the Medway Council building<\/a> and was greeted by workers screaming, \u2018Tom, we love you!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He was seen to turn and wave back at the admiring fans.<\/p>\n<p>The day before, the Top Gun actor was seen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentonline.co.uk\/medway\/news\/hollywood-star-tom-cruise-flies-in-for-latest-movie-275496\/?_gl=1*164d7bi*_ga*MTIzNTE3ODk1NS4xNzQ2NzE2ODI0*_ga_XNCF8VQ4K0*czE3NDc3NTA1MjMkbzgkZzEkdDE3NDc3NTEwNjUkajAkbDAkaDA.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flying to Chatham\u2019s Historic Dockyard<\/a>, where a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentonline.co.uk\/sheerness\/news\/its-lights-camera-action-for-kent-275395\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">film crew<\/a> had taken over.<\/p>\n<p>For the shoot, a giant lighting rig was set up near the entrance to the ropery building where a walkway had been cordoned off.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, around a dozen trailers were pictured at the tourist attraction.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 4980 3458\" alt=\"Tom Cruise landed near Gun Wharf offices to film at Chatham Dockyard for Mission: Impossible &#x2013; The Final Reckoning. Picture: Jenni Horn<\/p>\n<p>Despite wearing just a blue polo shirt, Cruise did not bring the Los Angeles weather with him, and our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentonline.co.uk\/medway\/news\/my-mission-improbable-waiting-with-fans-for-tom-cruise-275645\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reporter braced the Autumn chill in an effort to try and track the A-lister down days later<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But her Mission: Impossible turned out to be just that.<\/p>\n<p>However, she did come across some of his adoring fans hoping he would return.<\/p>\n<p>It turned out that Cruise had been filming the eighth and last instalment of the movie franchise, called \u2018Mission: Impossible \u2013 The Final Reckoning\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Two and a half years later, the stunt-filled blockbuster is hitting cinemas today (May 21).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentonline.co.uk\/kent\/news\/trump-s-movie-tariff-threat-could-be-catastrophic-for-kent-324244\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Donald Trump\u2019s tariff threat to movie industry could have immediate impact on productions shooting in Kent<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It follows the daredevil spy protagonist, Ethan Hunt, played by Cruise, as he and his Impossible Missions Force (IMF) team race against time to find and stop the Entity \u2013 a rogue AI that could destroy mankind.<\/p>\n<p>Cruise continues to do his own jaw-dropping stunts in the movie, which he has labelled a \u201cgargantuan accomplishment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He performs an extended underwater sequence in the wreckage of a submarine and hangs off the side of a plane while trying to thwart a dangerous enemy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a culmination of everything, and I mean everything, that me and Mc Q (director Christopher McQuarrie) have learned in storytelling over the course of making these movies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Final Reckoning is very elegant, very layered and incredibly epic.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 2452 1743\" alt=\"Tom Cruise, playing Ethan Hunt for the last Mission: Impossible film, performs an underwater sequence in the wreckage of a submarine. Picture: Paramount Pictures\/Giles Keyte<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause it\u2019s a culmination of all of Mission: Impossible, you\u2019re going to see Ethan from the very beginning and understand him in a whole different way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hunt is joined by comrades Benji and Grace, played by English actors Simon Pegg and Hayley Atwell, new ally Paris, a French assassin played by Guardians of the Galaxy star Pom Klementieff, and Theo, the US Intelligence agent once assigned to track down Ethan and his team played by Top Gun: Maverick\u2019s Greg Tarzan Davis.<\/p>\n<p>The odds of success are slim, and the ragtag have to time their actions down to the millisecond to avoid catastrophic consequences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the engine that drives this film,\u201d says director Christopher McQuarrie of the team at the heart of the story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very, very internal because Ethan is away from the team for so much of the movie.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 2025 1423\" alt=\"Tom Cruise hangs off the side of a plane in a jaw-dropping stunt during his last Mission: Impossible film.
