{"id":1191050,"date":"2026-09-07T08:13:30","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T08:13:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1191050\/"},"modified":"2026-09-07T08:13:30","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T08:13:30","slug":"new-pilot-to-turn-ultrasounds-into-3d-printed-moulds-for-parents-with-sight-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1191050\/","title":{"rendered":"New pilot to turn ultrasounds into 3D-printed moulds for parents with sight loss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/01M1TRBGWZ4YHDC63HPRSZHC2W-b76d10.jpg\" alt=\"New pilot to turn ultrasounds into 3D-printed moulds for parents with sight loss \"\/><br \/>\n\t\t\t\tTraditional 20-week pregnancy scans will be transformed into 3D-printed models for parents and grandparents with sight loss as part of a new pilot scheme.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative by Guide Dogs will give those who cannot see\u00a0ultrasound\u00a0screens or print-offs the chance to trace the contours of their baby before they arrive.<\/p>\n<p>The charity said people with sight loss are often \u201cexcluded from significant life moments\u201d that others take for granted.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the scheme, known as First Hello, expectant parents with sight loss, as well as their family members with impaired vision, can order bespoke tactile sonograms online.<\/p>\n<p>They are created by uploading a 20-week 2D\u00a0ultrasound\u00a0scan, which is then transformed into a render and 3D-printed.<\/p>\n<p>For the initial pilot, around 50 moulds will be available to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry Bevan, head of support services at Guide Dogs, said: \u201cEvery parent, grandparent and loved one deserves to experience the joy of early parenting milestones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToo often, people with sight loss are excluded from significant life moments that others take for granted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile this tactile sonogram project is an exciting pilot, it represents just one of the many ways Guide Dogs supports people who need it \u2013 breaking down barriers, celebrating life\u2019s important firsts, and empowering individuals to live life unleashed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reece Finnegan-Knight, who is expecting a baby and received a tactile sonogram, said: \u201cHolding the tactile scan for the very first time was an incredible experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t feel like I got much from our first scan appointments, and I found it really hard thinking that friends and family knew more about my baby than I did.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst Hello gave that moment back to me.
