Coronation Street<\/a>‘s Daniel Brocklebank has landed an exciting new role, following his exit from the soap. The actor played vicar Billy Mayhew, who was killed in an car crash during the Corriedale crossover<\/a> earlier this year. <\/p>\n

Now, Brocklebank will be swapping the clerical collar for a glitzy suit, as he joins the stage adaptation of The Hunger Games. The star will play Caesar Flickerman, the ostentatious host of the Games, who was portrayed by Stanley Tucci in the movies. <\/p>\n

Based on Suzanne Collins’ hugely successful book series and the 2012 movie, The Hunger Games: On Stage first debuted at London’s Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre last November. <\/p>\n

As the show enters its second year, it welcomes a new cast led by Elizabeth Anderson as Katniss Everdeen, Vinnie Copeland as Peeta Mellark and Nathan Stokes as Gale Hawthorne. <\/p>\n

Daisy Statham will play Prim, alongside Alix Dunmore as Mrs Everdeen, Isabel Della-Porta as Effie Trinket and Theo Ogundipe as Cinna. Hollywood legend John Malkovich will continue in his role as President Snow via a pre-recorded on-screen appearance.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Brocklebank isn’t the only soap actor joining the ranks, as EastEnders<\/a>‘ Neil McDermott (who played Ryan Malloy) will be starring as Katniss and Peeta’s abrasive mentor Haymitch Abernathy.<\/p>\n

The supporting cast will feature the return of Aiya Agustin (Rue), Geo Bailey (Tippet) and Alexandra Barredo (Fossa), with newcomers including Jason Battersby (Cato), Myla Carmen (Clove), Montel Morrison (Thresh), Jhanaica van Mook (Glimmer), and Jake Scott Newton (Marvel).<\/p>\n

The final performance for the current cast will be Monday 18 October, with the new faces making their debut on Friday 23 October. <\/p>\n

Elsewhere, former EastEnders star Kara Tointon, who played Dawn Swann on the soap, also joined The Hunger Games franchise last year. Tointon is set to play Haymitch’s mother Willamae Abernathy<\/a> in the upcoming prequel movie Sunrise on the Reaping. <\/p>\n

Based on Collins’ latest instalment, the story takes place during the 50th Hunger Games, where teenager Haymitch is selected as a District 12 tribute. It follows Haymitch’s harrowing experience in the arena, leading to the tragic aftermath of his victory. <\/p>\n

Coronation Street<\/strong> airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on <\/strong>ITVX<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

EastEnders<\/strong> airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.<\/strong><\/p>\n
