Three people have been arrested following the fatal crash on the A8 near Edinburgh yesterday.<\/p>\n
A major emergency service response was scrambled to Glasgow Road, between Newbridge Roundabout and Gogar, at around 9.25am on September 7. Police<\/a>, paramedics and fire crews were called to the scene of the incident, which police later described as a “hit-and-run” crash.<\/p>\n Officers first received a report of a crash<\/a> involving a grey Mercedes A250, a black Renault Captur, a grey Skoda Karoq and a grey Hyundai i30. Ambulance crews attended, however, the 58-year-old female driver of the Hyundai i30 was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n Detectives said they were looking for three people who allegedly fled following the crash. Two women, aged 23 and 19, and a 32-year-old man have now been arrested in connection.<\/p>\n Four other people were taken to hospital<\/a> for treatment and released. Sergeant Mike Thomson said: \u201cOur thoughts remain with the family of the woman who died. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n Extensive enquiries, using specialists resources including air support and the dog unit, were deployed on Monday evening.<\/p>\n An officer with a K9(Image: Reach plc)<\/p>\n Images taken at the scene showed a lorry, which was stopped on a grass verge and a number of cars, some of which appeared to be on their roof. Police with sniffer dogs were also pictured in the area.<\/p>\n The road was closed to allow investigation enquiries to be carried out and re-opened around 7.05pm last night. The vehicles were also recovered.<\/p>\n Speaking last night, Inspector Thomas Mallinson said: “My thoughts are with the family of the person who died at this incredibly difficult time.<\/p>\n “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed it or who has information which could assist our investigation to contact us.
