Up until now, though, having that personal executive summary required an active subscription to Google AI Plus, Pro, or Ultra.

According to a report from Android Authority, that paywall is officially coming down as Gemini Daily Brief is rolling out to free users in the US; effectively removing the paid subscription prerequisite from the feature entirely. Google has also updated its official support documentation to reflect that Google AI tiers are no longer required to generate daily summaries.

What is Gemini Daily Brief?

If you haven’t used the feature yet, Daily Brief essentially acts as an automated morning dashboard across your Google ecosystem. Rather than forcing you to jump between Google Calendar, Tasks, and Gmail, Gemini connects the dots across your connected Workspace services. Once generated, it presents an easily digestible breakdown covering:

Upcoming meetings, events, and scheduling conflicts on your calendar

Flagged tasks and to-do list items due today

Timely summaries of important incoming emails and updates

Key reminders pulled from previous interactions

The experience is accessible across the web interface as well as the official Gemini mobile apps, giving you a clean, at-a-glance read on what demands your attention before you dive into work.

Featured Videos

How to make sure you can access it

Because the update is rolling out gradually on the server side, not everyone will see it live in their account at the exact same moment. However, there are a few prerequisites your account needs to meet for Gemini to compile a briefing in the first place:

Enable Workspace Extensions: Gemini needs permission to read from your connected apps. Head into your Gemini Settings, open Extensions, and ensure that Google Workspace (which grants access to Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Calendar) is toggled on.

Turn on Memory: Daily Brief leans on context from your routine and preferences. Make sure Gemini Memory is enabled in your settings so it can surface relevant information accurately.

Ask for Your Summary: Once the feature hits your account, you can simply ask Gemini, “What’s my daily brief?” or look for the proactive briefing card on your home screen.

Big upgrades on the horizon

Expanding Daily Brief to the free tier is a huge signal that Google wants this tool to become a daily touchpoint for millions of Android, web, and Chromebook users.

Behind the scenes, the feature is also gaining substantial depth. Recent code teardowns have pointed to Google actively developing an audio playback option, which will let users listen to their briefing hands-free while driving or making coffee in the morning. Even more promising are signs that Google plans to surface these proactive briefings directly on the Android lock screen, bringing helpful glanceable cards back to the forefront of mobile hardware.

Dropping the paid barrier makes practical, daily AI features accessible to far more people, and we’ll keep an eye on how quickly international rollouts follow this initial US expansion.

SUBSCRIBE TO UPSTREAM

Get Chrome Unboxed delivered straight to your inbox

Upstream is our flagship, curated newsletter with the top stories, most click-worthy deals, giveaways, and trending articles from Chrome Unboxed sent directly to your inbox a few times a week.
