{"id":119657,"date":"2025-05-21T11:29:28","date_gmt":"2025-05-21T11:29:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/119657\/"},"modified":"2025-05-21T11:29:28","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T11:29:28","slug":"at-least-six-killed-in-school-bus-blast-in-pakistans-balochistan-conflict-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/119657\/","title":{"rendered":"At least six killed in school bus blast in Pakistan\u2019s Balochistan | Conflict News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__subhead\">At least six killed and dozens wounded in a blast targeting a school bus in Khuzdar, Balochistan, officials say.<\/p>\n<p>At least six people have been killed in a blast targeting a school bus in the Khuzdar district of Pakistan\u2019s southwest Balochistan province, an official said.<\/p>\n<p>Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said four children, the bus driver and his assistant were killed in the attack on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Yasir Iqbal Dashti, a government official in Khuzdar, said at least 38 people were wounded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe school bus belonged to Army Public School as it was picking children in the morning when it was attacked,\u201d he told Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<p>Bugti told a news conference in Quetta that 46 students were on the school bus that was hit by a \u201cvehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack\u201d according to initial investigations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been air-lifting the critically injured children to Quetta from Khuzdar,\u201d Bugti said.<\/p>\n<p>He said it was \u201cpremature to confirm the nature of the attack\u201d and that further investigations were ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>There was no claim of responsibility for the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Pakistan\u2019s military, in a statement, condemned the violence and accused \u201cIndian terror proxies\u201d of involvement in the attack. It did not share evidence to support the claim.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif \u201cstrongly condemned\u201d the attack by \u201cterrorists working under Indian patronage\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>There was no immediate comment from New Delhi.<\/p>\n<p>Sharif also offered his \u201csympathies\u201d to the families of those who were killed by the \u201cbrutality\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said the death toll could increase due to the severity of the explosion.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-arc-image-770 wp-image-3723594\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Interactive_Pakistan_Khuzdar_BusBlast-1747812472.png\" alt=\"Interactive_Pakistan_Khuzdar_BusBlast_May21_2025\" fetchpriority=\"low\"\/>(Al Jazeera)<br \/>\nBalochistan violence escalates<\/p>\n<p>Balochistan province, which is rich in minerals and natural resources, has been home to a decades-long conflict between the government and ethnic Baloch separatists, who demand secession from Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday\u2019s attack came days after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/5\/19\/car-bomb-in-pakistans-restive-southwest-kills-four-people\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">car bombing<\/a> killed four people near a market in Qillah Abdullah, also in Balochistan.<\/p>\n<p>Many attacks in the province are claimed by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which Pakistan says is backed by neighbouring India \u2013 a claim New Delhi denies.<\/p>\n<p>Reporting from Islamabad, Al Jazeera\u2019s Kamal Hyder said Pakistan was taking the attack on the school bus \u201cvery seriously\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that the Baloch Liberation Army, which is a banned outfit, has normally taken responsibility for these attacks \u2013 Pakistan says these groups are funded by the Indian intelligence agency,\u201d Hyder said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPakistan and India have, of course, been trading blame every time there is an attack across the border\u2026 [but] this is not the first time an attack has taken place in Balochistan province,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>UNICEF condemned the \u201chorrific\u201d attack on the school bus in a statement and extended its \u201cdeepest condolences\u201d to the families of the victims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing to school should never be a dangerous act for any child, anywhere. Yet this is the heartbreaking reality for too many children in Pakistan,\u201d UNICEF wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis devastating violence and needless suffering must end. Enough is enough.
