Last year at Adlam Park in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/fazakerley\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Fazakerley<\/a>, a series of new trees were planted at the green space, including one dedicated to former Cllr Jack Spriggs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Mr Spriggs served the north Liverpool ward for 18 years before he died in 2009. He had previously also served as Lord Mayor of the city in 2002.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">His family have taken to social media to hit out at those responsible for damaging items put in place by members of the community, including their father\u2019s dedication. Current Fazakerley East ward member Debbie Cooke described the behaviour as \u201csense vandalism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Former Lord Mayor Mr Spriggs grew up in Everton and attended St Francis Xavier school. He worked in the construction industry before moving to Fisher Bendix.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_Screenshot_21-5-2025_105853_scontent-lhr8-1xxfbcdnnetjpeg.jpg\" alt=\"The damaged tree in Adlam Park\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The damaged tree in Adlam Park<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He earned his union and political spurs by leading the famous workers sit-in in 1972, when the company announced it was closing its <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/kirkby\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Kirkby<\/a> factory. He became a councillor in 1991, and despite the heartache of the sad death in 1999 of his wife of 40 years, Ann, continued to serve his city, becoming Lord Mayor in 2002.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In 2010, a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/liverpool-politics-legend-jack-spriggs-3432437\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"commemorative plaque was unveiled in his memoryLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">commemorative plaque was unveiled in his memory<\/a> at Fazakerley Community Federation on Formosa Drive marking his two loves, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/liverpool-council\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool Council<\/a> and Liverpool FC. Former councillor and current Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram was among those to attend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Cllr Cooke took to social media to chastise those responsible for the park damage. She said: \u201cLast year we planted lots of new trees in Adlam Park, including one dedicated to Councillor Jack Spriggs. Unfortunately there have been recent incidents of vandalism on the new trees, with one tree being completely chopped down and another has had the caging forcefully removed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cAt Seeds Lane, we\u2019ve had similar issues and it looks like someone has taken an axe to one of the new trees there. This is our community and we want it to be a nice environment for everyone to enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Mr Spriggs\u2019 son, Dave, expressed his anger at what had happened. He replied: \u201cJust scum lowlifes they are.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cTry to do nice things and people abuse it, our family will always be grateful for my dad\u2019s tree and plaque.\u201d Cllr Cooke described the actions as \u201csenseless vandalism\u201d and said she hoped the city council would fund further equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Mr Spriggs\u2019 daughter Karen added: \u201cI\u2019m sad about this, it\u2019s disgusting.
