The Longshaw Estate in the heart of the Peak District will be the focus of the new series of Springwatch, which returns to the BBC next week<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Located on the eastern edge of the Peak District,<\/strong> the estate is owned by the National Trust.<\/p>\n

It features upland habitats<\/strong>, allowing the show to highlight a range of species never before featured on the Springwatch live cameras.<\/p>\n

\"Blackbirds<\/a><\/p>\n

New species that could appear include Red Listed ring ouzels and whinchats<\/strong>, which nest on the moorland slopes.<\/p>\n

In addition, the moorland curlew<\/strong>, one of Britain\u2019s most threatened birds, inhabits these landscapes and the wildlife team will be listening for their distinctive calls hoping to capture rare footage on camera.<\/p>\n

In Longshaw, there are some key species<\/strong> that we\u2019ll be hoping to meet like curlew, merlin, and red start, all of which are very exciting. We’ve not had them on the program before.<\/p>\n

Dippers, the world\u2019s only aquatic songbirds<\/strong>, also frequent the estate whilst the woodcock incubate their eggs in the secluded wooded areas. The team also hopes to record the drumming of snipe <\/strong>which circle across the peatland bogs.<\/p>\n

Packham said he was particularly looking forward to seeing the estate since he had never visited before. The species mix in the upland area would be very different<\/strong> from those seen on the last few seasons in the south of England, which were filmed in lowland areas.<\/p>\n

Nature trek<\/p>\n

The show will also feature Northern Ireland, with presenter Iolo Williams broadcasting from a three-week nature trek through some of the region\u2019s most diverse wildlife hotspots.<\/p>\n

Belfast<\/strong> will be the star of the first week, with Williams showcasing the wildlife that calls the Northern Irish capital home, and local people keen to protect them.<\/p>\n

In the second week, Williams will travel to Rathlin Island<\/strong>, a biodiversity hotspot and Northern Ireland\u2019s most northerly point. <\/p>\n

\"International<\/a><\/p>\n

It is a vital breeding ground for a variety of seabirds and home to endemic species such as the golden hare<\/strong>. He will also hope to hear the call of the rare corncrake.<\/p>\n

In week 3, Williams will introduce viewers to some of the 10,000 species found on Mount Stewart.<\/strong> The area boasts diverse woodlands, ghost ponds, rough farmland fields, twisting hedgerows, and a tidal lough scattered with green islands.<\/p>\n

Springwatch Street<\/p>\n

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the show has a new feature – Springwatch Street. This will feature some wildlife-friendly gardens in a row of terraced houses<\/strong> in Sheffield, according to Strachan.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there will be a lot of surprises: if you’re watching your garden in the daytime, you’re going to see the birds come, but what comes at night <\/strong>is going to be really interesting for people,” she said.<\/p>\n

“And what’s going on in their undergrowth – it’s the small stuff that is always so interesting and hopefully, that’s what we’re going to reveal, and that will hopefully inspire people <\/strong>to do even more in their gardens.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is something that we’ve never done before<\/strong> and I think that people are going to really enjoy that,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
