Earlier this year Oukitel launched a rugged smartphone<\/a> with a small, detachable screen on the back that you could pop out and snap into a watch band to wear as a watch or add to a clip for use as a Bluetooth earbud.<\/p>\n

Now Oukitel is doubling down on the concept with a new phone that features a bigger battery and a modular feature that lets you choose whether that small detachable screen fits into the back of the phone or if you\u2019ll use it for a super-bright flashlight. The Oukitel WP300<\/strong><\/a> is up for pre-order for $399 and up during a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign<\/a>. It\u2019s expected to sell for $600 after crowdfunding.<\/p>\n

The phone\u2019s most unusual feature is its modularity: there\u2019s a slot in the back of the phone where you can place either a \u201cModular Detachable HearWatch\u201d or a \u201cModular Camping Light.\u201d Either can be removed with the click of a button.<\/p>\n

Just as with the Oukitel WP200 Pro<\/a>, you can use the detachable module with a screen as either a smartwatch or earpiece. Compared with that phone though, the Oukitel WP300 has a new camping light accessory that can be put into a headband to help light your path. You can swap out modules on the go depending on which feature you\u2019d like to attach to the phone and which you would prefer to use separately.<\/p>\n

Oukitel doesn\u2019t provide many details about what\u2019s inside its removable modules, but the company says you can use the Bluetooth module for phone calls or to view notifications, or track health and fitness stats.<\/p>\n

The new phone does have a slower processor and less memory and storage, but it also has a battery that\u2019s nearly twice as big, theoretically enabling multiple days of battery life, even during heavy use.<\/p>\n

The Oukitel WP300 has a 6.8 inch, 2460 x 1080 pixel, 120 Hz primary display, a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 processor, 12GB of LPDDR5x memory and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage, and a 16,000 mAh battery with support for 45W charging and 18W reverse charging if you want to use the phone as a power bank to charge your other gadgets on the go.<\/p>\n

Oukitel is marketing this as a rugged phone with IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. It\u2019s also a MIL-STD-810H tested device that can operating in temperatures ranging from -20 to 50 degrees Celsius. The phone measures 177.3 x 82.4 x 23.2mm (making it thicker than most modern laptops \u2013 that\u2019s what happens when you pack a massive battery into a phone-sized device).<\/p>\n

Other features include a 108MP\u00a0 Samsung S5KHM6SX03 primary camera plus a 2MP macro camera and 32MP Sony IMX616 front-facing camera, support for either two nano SIM cards or one nano SIM + one microSD card (up to 2TB), a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and support for WiFi 6, NFC, and GPD.<\/p>\n
