Lynx founder Stan Larroque claims to have seen Valve’s new VR headset, but says he has heard that the device won’t be released until 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n

RUMORS<\/p>\n

Larroque described the design of the headset on X as “quite amazing”.<\/p>\n

“I would be equally pissed if Lynx nextgen ID got leaked so I won’t share more. I’m just excited for good new XR HMDs. The HMD-making world is so small, we all share the same suppliers for some components,” Larroque added on X.<\/p>\n

The Lynx founder later told Road to VR<\/a> that he had heard that mass production and eventual availability are slated for 2026. However, an earlier rumor<\/a> suggested that Valve is planning to release the new headset by the end of 2025. Valve itself has not yet officially announced a new VR headset.<\/p>\n

Larroque also told Road to VR that Valve Deckard won\u2019t compete against Lynx\u2019s upcoming hardware, as they separately “address two different markets [and] price points.”<\/p>\n

The French startup Lynx had planned to ship its first mixed reality headset, the Lynx R-1, to Kickstarter backers in 2023. However, production halted after Lynx ran out of funding<\/a>. The startup is now developing a new mixed reality headset that will run on Android XR.<\/p>\n

CONTEXT<\/p>\n

What is Valve Deckard?<\/p>\n

Rumors of a new Valve headset have been circulating since 2021, when dataminers discovered evidence of a device codenamed “Deckard.”<\/p>\n

In late 2024, 3D models of new VR controllers\u2014codenamed “Roy”<\/a>\u2014were found in SteamVR code, reigniting speculation. VR enthusiast Brad Lynch reported back then that the controllers were being tooled for mass production.<\/p>\n

The codenames “Deckard” and “Roy” seem to be references to Rick Deckard and his antagonist Roy Batty, the main protagonists of the sci-fi classic Blade Runner.<\/p>\n

In early 2025, a well-known Valve leaker claimed that Valve Deckard would launch by the end of 2025<\/a>, priced at $1,200 USD.<\/p>\n

For now, the design and specifications are still unknown. However, nearly seven years after the release of the Valve Index, a successor is long overdue.<\/p>\n
