{"id":12234,"date":"2025-04-12T00:28:11","date_gmt":"2025-04-12T00:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/12234\/"},"modified":"2025-04-12T00:28:11","modified_gmt":"2025-04-12T00:28:11","slug":"birmingham-man-denies-expressing-support-for-hamas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/12234\/","title":{"rendered":"Birmingham man denies expressing support for Hamas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressandstar.com\/news\/local-hubs\/birmingham\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham<\/a> man has denied expressing support for the proscribed terrorist group <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hamas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed Zahir Khan, 47, entered pleas to six charges when he attended a preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressandstar.com\/newsletters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sign up to our free newsletter today<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The defendant, of Alum Rock, Birmingham, pleaded not guilty to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressandstar.com\/news\/crime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expressing support for a proscribed terrorist organisation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The charge alleges that between January 30 and February 12 on at least three occasions he expressed support for Hamas and \u201cwas reckless\u201d as to whether a person would be encouraged to support a proscribed organisation.<\/p>\n<p>He pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a serious crime prevention order by \u201cfailing to provide information relating to a communications device and use of social media accounts\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He denied four further charges of failing to comply with notification requirements relating to email addresses, a telephone number and vehicle registration.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb said the case would be heard at Birmingham Crown Court.<\/p>\n<p>A plea and preparatory hearing was set for July 11 and a provisional trial from December 15.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant, who appeared in court by video-link from Hewell prison in Worcestershire, was remanded into custody.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Birmingham man has denied expressing support for the proscribed terrorist group Hamas.
