{"id":122450,"date":"2025-05-22T11:57:12","date_gmt":"2025-05-22T11:57:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/122450\/"},"modified":"2025-05-22T11:57:12","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T11:57:12","slug":"phil-parkinson-philosophy-questioned-by-birmingham-city-hero-as-wrexham-get-unwanted-championship-prediction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/122450\/","title":{"rendered":"Phil Parkinson philosophy questioned by Birmingham City hero as Wrexham get unwanted Championship prediction"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Wrexham and Birmingham City will extend their ongoing rivalry into the 2025\/26 Championship season.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The two clubs won promotion out of League One this past season, seeing Birmingham City take top spot and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrexhaminsider.com\/club\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wrexham<\/a> finish second.<\/p>\n<p>With a place in the second tier now secured, the rivalry, however light-hearted it may be, is continuing.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Wagner bought <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrexhaminsider.com\/news\/tom-bradys-gift-to-rob-mcelhenney-put-to-good-use-as-birmingham-city-owner-makes-classy-wrexham-gesture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tom Brady\u2019s gift to Rob McElhenney<\/a> this week, with the club\u2019s owners sending each other messages on social media.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrexhaminsider.com\/news\/wrexhams-ryan-reynolds-shares-his-love-for-tom-brady-in-message-to-birmingham-city-owner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ryan Reynolds expressed his love for Brady<\/a> this week, while one former Blues player has now been discussing Wrexham in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrexhaminsider.com\/tag\/championship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-1750325680-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Jon Hobley\/MI News\/NurPhoto via Getty Images\" \/>Photo by Jon Hobley\/MI News\/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesTroy Deeney questions Wrexham in Championship<\/p>\n<p>There has been much discussion about whether <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrexhaminsider.com\/news\/key-wrexham-man-responds-to-rubbish-claims-hes-been-hearing-about-the-club-amid-birmingham-praise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wrexham\u2019s squad is good enough for the Championship<\/a> right now.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrexhaminsider.com\/news\/ollie-rathbone-makes-25-26-championship-prediction-that-every-wrexham-fan-will-love-to-hear\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ollie Rathbone predicts a strong season<\/a> for the Dragons once they return to the second tier for the first time in 43 years.<\/p>\n<p>However, speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/football\/3225024\/wrexham-championship-rivals-troy-deeney-birmingham\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">talkSPORT<\/a> this week, former Birmingham man Troy Deeney thinks Wrexham will struggle compared to his ex-team.<\/p>\n<p>He also suggested the Welsh outfit\u2019s system under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrexhaminsider.com\/tag\/phil-parkinson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Phil Parkinson<\/a> may not be suited for Championship football.<\/p>\n<p>Deeney said: \u201cI think Wrexham will struggle more than Birmingham going into the Championship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd what I mean by that is how it\u2019s currently set up. They play a very deliberate way, a 5-3-2, getting loads of crosses into the box. I think a lot of Championship teams are comfortable with that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just don\u2019t know whether they can tweak it and do what needs to be done in terms of getting into the playoffs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2172884785-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Catherine Ivill - AMA\/Getty Images\" \/>Photo by Catherine Ivill \u2013 AMA\/Getty ImagesTroy Deeney on Wrexham and Birmingham spending<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrexhaminsider.com\/opinion\/forget-jay-stansfield-wrexham-have-a-15m-league-one-player-who-cost-rob-mcelhenney-and-ryan-reynolds-nothing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham broke the League One transfer record<\/a> in 2024 when they landed Jay Stansfield from Fulham.<\/p>\n<p>The Blues were the biggest spenders in the third tier last term, while Wrexham also broke their personal transfer record three times in two windows.<\/p>\n<p>On the spending power of both clubs, Deeney said: \u201cA lot of people are saying that Blues and Wrexham are throwing money at it, but it\u2019s [not] easy. I\u2019ve been at clubs where you throw money at it and it doesn\u2019t work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we had our highest paid squad at Watford and our most talented players, we got relegated. So it\u2019s not as easy as just flinging some money at it.
