{"id":122989,"date":"2025-05-22T16:36:13","date_gmt":"2025-05-22T16:36:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/122989\/"},"modified":"2025-05-22T16:36:13","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T16:36:13","slug":"mystery-of-how-top-sports-professor-was-found-dead-inside-famous-russian-statue-news-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/122989\/","title":{"rendered":"Mystery of how top sports professor was found dead inside famous Russian statue | News World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"646\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SEC_252617672-b9b1.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-23222364\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"sync\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tNikolai Chesnokov, 68, fell ill and collapsed after climbing 200 steps to the top of the memorial (Picture: east2west \/ Shutterstock)<\/p>\n<p>The chancellor of <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/russia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Russia<\/a>\u2019s top sports university has died inside the head of \u2018Motherland Calls\u2019, a World War II memorial that was once the tallest in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Nikolai Chesnokov, 68, fell ill this morning<a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/05\/20\/mysterious-soviet-doomsday-radio-station-broadcasts-cryptic-messages-again-23117569\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> during an excursion<\/a> to the 279-foot statue in the southern region of Volgograd.<\/p>\n<p>He was reportedly accompanied by colleagues from the Kremlin-funded Moscow State Academy of Physical Culture who attempted to resuscitate him, but to no avail.<\/p>\n<p>Baza, a Telegram channel with links to Russian security services, claimed the visit inside the monument had not been authorised as the statue is not open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>It also said that Chesnokov died of a heart attack, but this has not yet been confirmed by emergency services.<\/p>\n<p>Russian reports stated that inside the head of the statue, there is a small room, with a wooden floor and a bench, which can be accessed through a hatch.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SEI_252617284-d1e1.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-23222327\" alt=\"Volgograd, Russia - September 19, 2020: Evening view of the sculpture Motherland Calls! on the Mamaev Kurgan in Volgograd.
