Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted that he might need to make an \u201cevaluation\u201d around one first-team player ahead of the Newcastle match.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ruben Amorim\u2019s<\/a> men have seven Premier League matches remaining in the 2024-25 campaign and Manchester United<\/a> languish in 13th place in the league table.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils have struggled to turn around their season under United manager<\/a> Amorim and are on course for their worst finish in Premier League history.<\/p>\n

United\u2019s last league outing came against Manchester City<\/a> last Sunday and the Red Devils walked away with a Premier League point from the match at Old Trafford<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Following the final Manchester derby of the season between United and City<\/a>, the Red Devils resumed their Europa League campaign on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n

Lyon hosted United at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais<\/a> in France and Amorim\u2019s side had to settle for a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals.<\/p>\n

United led Lyon in the dying stages<\/a> of the match, but the French side found a crucial equaliser in second-half stoppage time after a second error from Andre Onana<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Manchester United<\/a> will travel to St James\u2019 Park on Sunday afternoon and will face Newcastle ahead of resuming their Europa League campaign next Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils will host Lyon at Old Trafford<\/a> on 17th April for the return leg in the quarter-finals and United cannot afford any major slip-ups in their European run.<\/p>\n

The 2024-25 Europa League campaign remains Ruben Amorim\u2019s last chance to secure major silverware as United head coach in the current season.<\/p>\n

UEFA\u2019s second-tier club competition could also ensure a path back to the Champions League for next season and secure European football for the 2025-26 campaign.<\/p>\n

Bruno Fernandes\u2019<\/a> influence has been invaluable for Amorim, but the former Sporting CP boss was asked if the United captain could be rested for the Newcastle match.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an evaluation,\u201d he said at his pre-match press conference, as per Manchester United\u2019s official website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll make this evaluation with all the staff, with all the data that we have, and then because we know already the players, we will try to protect the ones that it will be hard to make a lot of games.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut Bruno Fernandes is playing all the time and he\u2019s playing better all the time. Sometimes this kind of player has to play in every match.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we will address that in these days that we have to prepare.\u201d<\/p>\n

Newcastle are fifth in the Premier League table under Eddie Howe and the Magpies are pushing ahead with securing a place for Champions League football next season.<\/p>\n

When asked about the threat that Eddie Howe\u2019s men could pose, United manager Amorim admitted that Newcastle are impressive in all areas on the pitch.<\/p>\n

Speaking ahead of the Premier League match at St James\u2019 Park, Amorim said: \u201cEverything [about Newcastle]. They have top players, really good on set-pieces, the physicality, the way they run in recovery when they are beaten in the first pressure.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, they are a team that play together for a while. They won a title, that was really emotional for everybody \u2013 you can see it with that week.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut again, we have to think in our team [about] the way we want to play these kinds of games, and we are being consistent in the way we play the games.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we\u2019ll try to do the same on Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\n

United will kick off at 4:30pm UK time against fifth-place Newcastle in their Premier League clash at St James\u2019 Park on Sunday.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
