{"id":123787,"date":"2025-05-22T23:33:11","date_gmt":"2025-05-22T23:33:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/123787\/"},"modified":"2025-05-22T23:33:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T23:33:11","slug":"imf-defends-pakistan-bailout-says-all-targets-were-met","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/123787\/","title":{"rendered":"IMF defends Pakistan bailout, says all targets were met"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/m.economictimes.com\/topic\/international-monetary-fund\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Monetary Fund<\/a> (<a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/m.economictimes.com\/topic\/imf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IMF<\/a>) on Thursday defended its recent bailout package to <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/m.economictimes.com\/topic\/pakistan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pakistan<\/a>, stating that the country had met all the required targets to qualify for the disbursement.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to a question during a press conference, the IMF clarified that Pakistan\u2019s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme was approved in September 2024. Although the first review was scheduled for early 2025, it was completed on 9 May, following which the funds were released.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is part of the standard process,\u201d the IMF said. <br \/>\u201cOur executive board regularly reviews lending programmes to assess whether they are on track, if the conditions have been met, and whether any policy adjustments are required to maintain progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Pakistan\u2019s case, the board confirmed that all targets had been achieved. \u201cThere was sufficient consensus among board members to proceed with the review and disbursement,\u201d the IMF added.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ET logo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/118783427.cms.png\" width=\"90%\"\/>Live Events<br \/>Director of the IMF\u2019s Communications Department <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/m.economictimes.com\/topic\/julie-kozack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Julie Kozack<\/a> told Business Today, \u201cI want to make three important points. First, IMF financing is intended solely to address balance of payments challenges. Second, all EFF disbursements go directly into Pakistan\u2019s central bank reserves, not to the government\u2019s budget. There is a zero limit on lending from the central bank to the government.
