Prince William has made protecting our planet a cornerstone of his royal work<\/a>. And now he has teamed up with the BBC to create a docuseries specifically highlighting the \u201ccritical\u201d work that rangers do at the forefront of conservation.<\/p>\n

The six-part docuseries Guardians launches today on BBC Earth\u2019s YouTube and social channels. The digital-first series, created for The Royal Foundation\u2019s charity United for Wildlife<\/a>, features six to 10-minute episodes, each focusing on a different part of the world. Episode one<\/a> takes viewers to the Dzangha-Sangha protected area in the Central African Republic and tells the story of a reformed poacher who now dedicates his life to protecting wildlife.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt came about from wanting to educate, showcase, highlight, spotlight the brilliant men and women who are on the forefront and frontline of conservation around the world,\u201d Prince William explained about the series. \u201cThe reality is that protecting our natural world has become one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet. We need to understand and recognize nature\u2019s guardians, and the critical work they do\u2026Every day, they take huge risks as nature\u2019s frontline of defense.\u201d<\/p>\n

The prince introduced episode one by speaking about his love of Africa. \u201cI have been fortunate enough to travel to Africa many times over the years, and the continent has always held a special place in my heart,\u201d William said in the episode. \u201cDeep in the Central African Republic lies Dzanga-Sangha\u2014one of our planet\u2019s last great untouched wildernesses. Here, elephants and gorillas still roam through ancient forests, alongside communities who have lived in harmony with nature for generations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking about the dangers involved with poaching, William said, \u201cMany people think being a soldier, being a policeman\u2026these jobs are dangerous and people put their lives on the line. I don\u2019t think people realize it\u2019s the same for these guys and girls around the world\u2026I\u2019m hoping this shines a really big spotlight on the determination, the resilience, and the enthusiasm these people have to look after the natural world.\u201d<\/p>\n

New episodes will be released each week, with future programs highlighting The Himalayas, Mexico\u2019s Sea of Cortez, Kruger National Park in South Africa, Sri Lanka and Caru Indigenous Land in Brazil. The programs have been produced alongside documentary makers Zandland.<\/p>\n

United for Wildlife was founded by Prince William and The Royal Foundation in 2013. It is a global alliance intended to foster an effective response to the crises facing the natural world.<\/p>\n
