{"id":123957,"date":"2025-05-23T01:03:14","date_gmt":"2025-05-23T01:03:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/123957\/"},"modified":"2025-05-23T01:03:14","modified_gmt":"2025-05-23T01:03:14","slug":"japan-cpi-singapore-cpi-south-korea-ppi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/123957\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan CPI, Singapore CPI, South Korea PPI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The upscale shopping district of\u00a0Ginza in Tokyo, Japan, on Saturday, May 4, 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets mostly climbed Friday as investors assess a slew of economic data from the region.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s benchmark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nikkei 225<\/a> rose 0.48% at the open and the Topix climbed 0.5%.<strong> <\/strong>South Korea&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.KS11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kospi<\/a> rose 0.36% while the small-cap Kosdaq was down 0.34%.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s benchmark S&amp;P\/ASX 200 was up 0.16% at the open.<\/p>\n<p>Futures for Hong Kong&#8217;s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.HSI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Hang Seng index<\/a> stood at 23,492, lower than its last close of 23,544.31.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s core inflation accelerated to 3.5% in April, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-stat.go.jp\/en\/stat-search\/files?page=1&amp;layout=datalist&amp;toukei=00200573&amp;tstat=000001150147&amp;cycle=1&amp;year=20250&amp;month=12040604&amp;tclass1=000001150149&amp;result_back=1&amp;tclass2val=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">government data showed<\/a> Friday, bolstered in part by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/05\/21\/japan-minister-resigns-after-backlash-on-rice-remarks.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">surging rice prices<\/a>, as the central bank considers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/en\/bojs-noguchi-sees-no-need-big-change-bond-taper-plan-2025-05-22\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pausing its rate-hike stance<\/a> to assess the effects of U.S. tariffs.<\/p>\n<p>Investors are also parsing South Korea&#8217;s PPI figures for April and New Zealand&#8217;s retail sales for the first quarter of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Other economic data are set to be released later in the day, with Singapore slated to report inflation data for April, and Taiwan to publish its industrial output figures.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. stock futures were little changed as investors continue to evaluate the effect of higher U.S. Treasury yields on the economy. Futures tied to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@DJ.1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a>\u00a0added 14 points, or 0.03%.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@ND.1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nasdaq 100 futures<\/a>\u00a0were marginally lower, while\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@SP.1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S&amp;P 500 futures<\/a>\u00a0ticked up 0.03%.<\/p>\n<p>Overnight stateside, the three major averages closed mixed as investors grappled with fears of rising rates and worries about a ballooning U.S. deficit. The 30-year Treasury yield hit its highest since 2023 as lawmakers passed a bill that investors fear could worsen the U.S. deficit.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a>\u00a0slipped 1.35 points, closing at 41,859.09.
