{"id":12396,"date":"2025-04-12T01:51:28","date_gmt":"2025-04-12T01:51:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/12396\/"},"modified":"2025-04-12T01:51:28","modified_gmt":"2025-04-12T01:51:28","slug":"shein-on-course-for-london-ipo-after-green-light-from-city-watchdog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/12396\/","title":{"rendered":"Shein on course for London IPO after green light from City watchdog"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul class=\"mol-bullets-with-font\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Reuters reports that the Financial Conduct Authority has approved the IPO\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"author-section byline-plain\">By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisismoney.co.uk\/profile-3727\/harry-wise.html\" class=\"author\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HARRY WISE<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/follow?screen_name=harrywisey&amp;tw_p=followbutton\" class=\"twitter-follow-author\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p class=\"byline-section\"> Updated:  04:01 EDT, 11 April 2025   <\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Shein has reportedly been given the green light by the City watchdog for a long-awaited initial public offering on the London Stock Exchange.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It comes ten months after the fast fashion giant, which sold $38billion of clothes last year, confidentially filed an initial public offering to the FCA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Regulators have delayed sanctioning the listing due to concerns about the company&#8217;s labour practices and a challenge by an organisation advocating on behalf of the Uyghur minority.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisismoney.co.uk\/money\/markets\/article-14405423\/Shein-pressure-slash-valuation-ahead-London-IPO.html\" rel=\"noopener\">Shareholders also pressured Shein<\/a> to slash its valuation from $50billion to around $30billion (\u00a323.8billion) to ensure the IPO went ahead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Reuters reports that Shein will still require approval from the China Securities Regulatory Commission before the IPO can proceed, but it has informed the body in recent weeks of the FCA&#8217;s consent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Both Shein and the FCA declined requests for comment.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-4c25bce4a817a68d\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/97163793-14598217-image-a-22_1744356701334.jpg\" height=\"437\" width=\"634\" alt=\"Results: Shein's net profits slumped by almost 40 per cent to \u00a3792million in 2024\" class=\"blkBorder img-share\" style=\"max-width:100%\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>   <\/p>\n<p class=\"imageCaption\">Results: Shein&#8217;s net profits slumped by almost 40 per cent to \u00a3792million in 2024<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Founded in October 2008, Shein has expanded considerably since the Covid-19 pandemic, when restrictions on physical stores led to a surge in online clothing sales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Even after trading curbs ended, the group&#8217;s orders continued soaring, helped by its cheap products and an army of TikTok influencers promoting the brand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">However, the Singapore-based firm&#8217;s <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisismoney.co.uk\/money\/markets\/article-14427357\/Budget-rival-dents-profits-fast-fashion-giant-Shein.html\" rel=\"noopener\">net profits slumped<\/a> by almost 40 per cent to \u00a3792million in 2024 amid a problematic final quarter and stiff competition from fellow fashion retailer Temu.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Shein will also have to contend with President Donald Trump&#8217;s new tariff measures, including removing a &#8216;de minimis&#8217; exemption that allowed packages worth under $800 to be shipped duty-free to the US.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Trump has also hiked the tariff on all Chinese goods imports to a staggering 125 per cent, blaming a &#8216;lack of respect&#8217; from Beijing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Shein&#8217;s products are primarily produced at thousands of factories across China, with other sites in Brazil and Turkey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The company does not own any manufacturing sites but instead sources its products from third-party suppliers.
