The blaze &#8211; <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/ten-people-rescued-bristol-fire-10204206\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">thought to have been started by an electric bike<\/a> &#8211; tore through parts of Castle Park View on Marybush Lane on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Ten people <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/ten-people-rescued-bristol-fire-10204206\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">had to be rescued<\/a>, although no one was seriously injured. As a result of the fire, the building\u2019s 188 residents were evacuated. They are waiting for an update from housing association Abri, on when they will be able to return.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A spokesman said it was \u201cstill early days\u201d and its experts were assessing the full extent of the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/live-large-fire-breaks-out-10200451\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">damage to the building<\/a>, drying out water-impacted areas and getting an understanding of what work would be required to make it habitable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Abri\u2019s regional managing director Helen Wilson said today: \u201cThe safety of our customers is our highest priority. Electricity and water was turned off at the building due to the amount of water damage on site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;We understand this is a distressing time for our customers, our housing colleagues are on site supporting our customers including providing temporary accommodation and subsidising food and travel expenses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cOur repairs team are currently assessing the extent of the water damage to understand the works required and how long it will take. We will continue to update our customers regularly as more information becomes available.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Initial investigations suggest the fire was accidental. A spokesperson for <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/live-large-fire-breaks-out-10200451\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Avon Fire and Rescue Service<\/a> said: \u201cWe were called at 5.18pm to reports of a fire in a residential block of flats on Marybush Lane, Bristol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cTen people were rescued from the fourth floor of the building using the service\u2019s turntable ladder. Two people were treated by ambulance at the scene. Following fire investigation, the cause of the fire is thought to be accidental due to an electric bike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">This week\u2019s fire comes two-and-a-half years after a fatal blaze was caused by an e-bike at an <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/easton\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Easton<\/a> tower block. Abdul Oryakhel &#8211; who had arrived in Bristol after fleeing Afghanistan only a few months earlier &#8211; <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/man-killed-easton-tower-block-7639289\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">died on September 25, 2022,<\/a> after falling from the 16th floor of Twinnell House while trying to escape.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Following his death, Avon senior coroner Maria Voisin <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/coroner-calls-government-action-over-9378112\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote to the Government demanding action<\/a>.
