The expansion of the now four-platform station in Bradford was made possible by substantial government funding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The brand-new platform &#8211; Platform 0 &#8211; at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/bradford\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bradford<\/a> Forster Square Rail station opened on Monday, May 19 with the first new LNER services. The platform enables more trains to run between Bradford and London Kings Cross between Monday and Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Beginning this week, around seven direct trains a day will run from the station to the capital \u2013 with more services expected to be added in December. This includes a morning northbound service that arrives in the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/the-yorkshire\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">West Yorkshire<\/a> city at 9.52am.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The previous government announced funding for the new platform back in 2024, promising to support Bradford for its <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/travel\/uk-city-bad-reputation-now-35072779\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">2025 City of Culture<\/a> year. The report into <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/railways\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">rail services<\/a> present to the committee at their last meeting said: \u201cMay will also see the introduction of the much-anticipated step-change to Bradford\u2019s London trains, increasing on weekdays from just two per day to seven, and from one to two on Sundays (further increase to six on Sundays from December) \u2013 though at the time of writing this is subject to final confirmation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The report continued: \u201cThis is enabled by the opening of the new Platform 0 at Forster Square. <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/travel\/news\/lumo-vs-lner-comparing-ryanair-33411275\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">LNER\u2019s<\/a> expanded services to Bradford mark a significant boost in connectivity, supporting the city\u2019s UK City of Culture celebrations while driving economic growth and opportunity across the region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In the lead up to the opening of Platform 0, Bradford Council leader Susan Hinchcliffe shared: \u201cThis is \u00a335m of investment from the Government and we have only got that because Bradford is<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/travel\/uk-city-bad-reputation-now-35072779\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> City of Culture<\/a>. We\u2019d have never got this if not for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Hinchcliffe continued: \u201cWe made the case that if you want to make sure the world is connected to Bradford, you have to make sure trains come here. There will be seven trains a day from London to Bradford and back again. This is a real sign of success for the City of Culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_JHP_MDM_021221TRANSPORT_05.jpg\" alt=\"Image of Bradford Interchange rail station platform\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Bradford is the 2025 City of Culture(Image: Julian Hamilton\/Daily Mirror)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Hinchcliffe confirmed that the new<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/politics\/lner-train-strike-frustrating-says-33484555\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> LNER trains<\/a> will also benefit Shipley and will begin stopping off at the station\u2019s lengthened platforms in August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In preparation for the platform opening, the entire community got involved to present the station in the best possible light. A team of volunteers working with Bradford City Community Foundation and Peer Action Collective worked alongside staff from Northern, LNER, ISS, and Bradford Council to clean up the station.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Volunteers spent the day picking up litter in the station, car park, and surrounding area. The station team also cleared the overgrown green space next to Platform 1 in preparation for the planting of a community garden.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">When the new platform was announced, plans also outlined a new roof canopy, passenger furniture, information screens, CCTV and lighting to be installed in the railway arches.
