Here at Time Out, we\u00a0can\u2019t resist a city ranking \u2013 especially when London comes out on top.\u00a0In one survey, our capital was named the greatest city in the world for the tenth year in a row<\/a>\u00a0and in another, it was\u00a0declared\u00a0the best city in Europe<\/a>. Oh, it was also ranked one of the world\u2019s best cities to explore on foot<\/a>, the best sports city<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0one of the most \u2018dynamic\u2019 cities on the planet.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now, yet another ranking has bigged up the Big Smoke. Every year, advisory firm Oxford Economics<\/a>\u00a0digs into a bunch of economic, cultural, environmental and political factors to create its Global City Index.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It looked at\u00a0 a whopping 1,000 cities across the globe, awarding each of them an overall score out of 100. And with a score of 98.5,\u00a0London earned second place on the index for the second year in a row,\u00a0beaten only by New York<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The index said that London \u2018has established itself as a perpetually relevant locale for business, science and technology, education, and the arts\u2019 and\u00a0ranked us number one in the world in the \u2018human capital\u2019 category. That encompasses things like population growth, educational attainment and corporate headquarters.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The city\u2019s\u00a0three biggest strengths, according to Oxford Economics, are\u00a0its number of universities, its large GDP size and its \u2018lower emissions intensity\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Of course,\u00a0London is far from perfect. The report pointed out that the capital\u2019s\u00a0largest weaknesses are high housing expenditure, less economic diversity and lower income quality. Never the less, Oxford Economics said: \u2018The city is set to remain a top Global City for years to come, potentially fighting New York for the top spot.\u2019<\/p>\n
