{"id":125275,"date":"2025-05-23T12:49:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-23T12:49:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/125275\/"},"modified":"2025-05-23T12:49:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-23T12:49:09","slug":"former-world-number-four-and-us-open-semi-finalist-announces-she-will-be-retiring-from-tennis-after-the-french-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/125275\/","title":{"rendered":"Former world number four and US Open semi-finalist announces she will be retiring from tennis after the French Open"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The clay season is approaching its final tournament, as Roland Garros is set to get underway on the 25th of May in Paris.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/french-open-2025-full-main-draw-jannik-sinner-carlos-alcaraz-and-novak-djokovics-first-round-matches-announced\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The draw for the French Open<\/a> has been announced, with favourable paths to the final for the likes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Novak Djokovic<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/coco-gauff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coco Gauff<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>It will be the first time the event has taken place since 14-time champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/roland-garros-sends-message-to-king-of-clay-rafael-nadal-after-he-retires-with-a-record-14-titles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rafael Nadal retired<\/a>, marking the start of a new era in the French capital.<\/p>\n<p>On the women\u2019s side, however, an era is coming to an end for a former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/roland-garros\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roland Garros<\/a> quarter-finalist. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2216559023-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"2025 French Open - Previews\" \/>Photo by Andy Cheung\/Getty ImagesCaroline Garcia announces her retirement from tennis<\/p>\n<p>Former world number four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/caroline-garcia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Caroline Garcia<\/a> took to social media to announce: \u201cDear tennis, it\u2019s time to say goodbye. After 15 years competing at the highest level, and more than 25 years putting pretty much every second of my life into it, I feel ready to start a new chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy tennis journey hasn\u2019t always been easy. Since my early days, tennis has been much more than just winning or losing. It\u2019s been love or hate. Happiness or anger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStill, I\u2019m deeply grateful for this journey\u2014for everything tennis has given me, and for how much it\u2019s helped me become a strong, passionate, hard-working woman.
