{"id":125585,"date":"2025-05-23T15:24:11","date_gmt":"2025-05-23T15:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/125585\/"},"modified":"2025-05-23T15:24:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-23T15:24:11","slug":"trump-threatens-25-tariff-on-iphones-iphones-made-outside-of-the-united-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/125585\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump threatens 25% tariff on iPhones iPhones made outside of the United States"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>May 23 (UPI) &#8212; President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/topic\/Donald_Trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Donald Trump\" class=\"tpstyle\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> on Friday threatened tariffs against Apple on iPhones that are manufactured outside of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said in <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/114556874484491575\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Truth Social post<\/a> that a tariff of &#8220;at least 25%&#8221; will be levied on future iPhones that are manufactured internationally and sold in the United States.\n<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I long ago informed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/topic\/Tim_Cook\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Tim Cook\" class=\"tpstyle\" rel=\"noopener\">Tim Cook<\/a> of Apple that I expect their [iPhones] that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else,&#8221; Trump wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Trump&#8217;s post did not include details on how the proposed tariffs would be implemented.\n<\/p>\n<p>The warning came after a White House official said Trump met with Cook at the White House earlier in the week, CBS News reported.<\/p>\n<p>Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/media\/scott-bessent-says-trump-wants-light-fire-under-apple-eu-new-tariff-threats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> told Fox News<\/a> Friday he was not present in that meeting but suggested they may have discussed an effort by the Trump administration to focus on &#8220;precision manufacturing&#8221; of products made in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A large part of Apple&#8217;s components are in semiconductors.
