In the meantime however, you might have to rethink the beach trip or BBQ you were planning this Bank Holiday as the Met Office have confirmed the weather change will lead to heavy showers across the country over the weekend and into Monday.<\/p>\n
A Met Office meteorologist told the Belfast Telegraph the weekend is \u201cmarking a change in weather type rather than talking about severe weather\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are expecting to see weather that is typical for the UK this time of year but when you contrast it with weather that we have had last month it is certainly a change that might disappoint some people,\u201d a Met Office spokesperson added.<\/p>\n
NI can expect to see a mixture of heavy showers and sunny spells over the weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cRain is definitely coming for Northern Ireland, the rain is probably already making its way across to you and will be with you mid afternoon (on Friday), it will work its way through the country and we should see heavy showers by midnight into the early hours.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThen on Saturday there will be some not as heavy rain as Friday night, but it will then get heavy into the afternoon. Sunday will be drier with further bouts of rain, not heavy rainfall or an impactful change in weather but I can understand some people may find it disappointing,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
Temperatures are set to remain relatively high on Saturday despite this.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou could expect to see highs of 18 or 19C on Saturday and then the temperature will drop into Sunday and Monday leaving you with much cooler temperatures of 14 or 15C,\u201d the Met Office spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
However, he did confirm warmer weather will return to Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will not be continual rain across the country so there will be some sunny spells across Northern Ireland. In terms of a long dry, warm spell, we will see it again this summer,\u201d the Met Office spokesperson added.<\/p>\n
He admitted it was too early to tell exactly when the hot weather will return but believes Northern Ireland can expect to see high temperatures in June and July.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s too early to give strong indications for the summer but it looks like we will see a warmer spell coming for the UK at the end of month or the beginning of June.<\/p>\n
\u201cRain is in the forecast but we aren\u2019t expecting to see a pattern of heavy showers for summer,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Northern Ireland has already had its sunniest spring on record, according to provisional Met Office figures.<\/p>\n
They showed 570 hours of sunshine in Northern Ireland so far in spring 2025, which beats Northern Ireland\u2019s previous sunniest spring in 2020, in a series which dates back to 1910.<\/p>\n
