Young entrepreneurs can apply to receive business mentorship and a micro grant of up to $500 to help with startup expenses such as materials, advertising, and equipment, or to support the growth of an existing business.<\/p>\n<p>This program is unique to Northumberland County, and since launching in 2021 the program has helped 45 youths explore the exciting world of entrepreneurship. This year, participants will also have the chance to shine in the spotlight at two exciting community events:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><b>Youth Entrepreneurship Showcase at Staples Cobourg:<br \/><\/b><\/strong>Wednesday, August 13<br \/>11 a.m. to 2 p.m.<\/li>\n<li><strong><b>Youth Day at the Cobourg Farmers\u2019 Market:<\/b><\/strong><br \/>Saturday, August 23<br \/>9 a.m. to 12 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These events are a real-world opportunity for young business owners to connect with customers, get feedback, and build confidence. At these events, the community will get to see the next generation of business talent in action. In the past, participating businesses have included handmade crafts and jewellery, emotional support journals, lawncare services, and wooden home d\u00e9cor and bird houses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe My Future My Career program helps young entrepreneurs take real steps toward starting a business \u2014 and have fun doing it,\u201d says the County\u2019s Business Development Coordinator Kailyn Coupland. \u201cThe program plants the seed of entrepreneurship early and teaches young people important real-world skills they will carry with them for life, including creativity, independence, confidence and financial management. Many past participants have continued to grow their businesses after the program concluded \u2013 it\u2019s always inspiring to watch the spark of an idea turn into a thriving local business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Northumberland\u2019s go-to hub for business support, the BECN empowers entrepreneurs at every stage \u2014 from young entrepreneurs to seasoned business owners. They have micro grant and business development programs tailored for kids, teens, women, new entrepreneurs, food and consumer packaged goods businesses, and experienced business owners.
