It\u2019s the poster child for a new wave of weight loss injections<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve seen Ozempic<\/a> help people drop up to a fifth of their body weight<\/a>, along with other brands including Mounjaro<\/a>, Wegovy and Zepbound.<\/p>\n

The drugs<\/a>, which have been hailed a \u201cmiracle\u201d by some, work by mimicking GLP-1, a hormone released in the body when we are full.<\/p>\n

While many celebrities, including Amy Schumer<\/a>, 43, and Sharon Osbourne<\/a>, 72, have lost huge amounts of weight and openly talked about using Ozempic, we\u2019ve also heard about the huge list of potential side effects.<\/p>\n

And while you may be familiar with \u2018Ozempic neck<\/a>\u2019 and even \u2018Ozempic feet<\/a>\u2019, there\u2019s now an even more brutal aftermath that experts are noticing.<\/p>\n

With millions across the world using GLP-1 medications to slim down, the side effects are becoming more pronounced.<\/p>\n

Fat jab users are flooding clinics, complaining of issues not only related to their mood, but also their teeth<\/a>, tongue, hair<\/a> and nails<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dr Sepideh Jalali, a dentist at The Tooth Club<\/a>, said there has been an increase in weight loss drug users in the clinic complaining of ‘GLP-1 teeth’ and tongue issues.<\/p>\n

Patients have reported heightened sensitivity, dry mouth and even gum recession, mainly linked to dehydration and rapid weight loss.<\/p>\n

Dr Emma Cunningham, an advanced aesthetics specialist at Dr Emma Clincs<\/a>, has also seen a growing number in patients that are experiencing ‘GLP-1 Face’ – with concerns of loose, sagging skin, showing in the jawline and cheeks.<\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively to Fabulous<\/a>, Dr Emma and Dr Sepideh shared all on the brutal \u2018Ozempic aftermath\u2019 – which they believe celebs including Sharon Osbourne<\/a>, Scott Disick<\/a> and The Real Housewives<\/a> of Orange County Star, Emily Simpson<\/a>, have fallen victim to.<\/p>\n

Here, they reveal the lesser-known side effects of fat jabs – and how the unintended changes are not just cosmetic, but also have immense emotional and mental impacts that people must be aware of.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dr Emma stressed that fat jabs make it extremely difficult for your body to cope with rising and falling temperatures.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She claimed that with body fat lost, your natural insulation will be reduced, leaving you open to the risk of dehydration or heat exhaustion in hot weather. <\/p>\n

This has also been recognised by a MedlinePlus study<\/a> and findings from UFHealth<\/a>, which identified that, as fat layers thin and insulation reduces, the risk of skin injury is much higher.<\/p>\n

Not only this, but Dr Emma has also seen an increase in those using Ozempic and Mounjaro experiencing skin sensitivity and sunburn<\/a>.<\/p>\n

‘Godzilla’ of fat jabs <\/p>\n

Dr Mitra Dutt, a\u00a0GP<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0Lloyds Pharmacy Online Doctor<\/a>, says: \u201cMounjaro works by activating two hormonal receptors (GIP and GLP-1), which enhance insulin production, improve insulin sensitivity and work to decrease food intake.\u201d<\/p>\n

Saxenda, which contains the active ingredient liraglutide, is another weight loss jab that’s been available on the NHS since 2020.<\/p>\n

While Mounjaro is hailed as the “King Kong” fat jabs, a\u00a0new weight loss drug dubbed “Godzilla”<\/a>\u00a0looks set to displace it.<\/p>\n

Containing the active ingredient retatrutide, slimmers trying the drug lost up to 29 per cent of their weight in less than a year.<\/p>\n

By comparison, trial results showed semaglutide, known as Ozempic, could lead to 15 per cent weight loss and tirzepatide, aka Mounjaro, to 23 per cent.<\/p>\n

Retatrutide acts on three different receptors in the brain, \u201cturbocharging\u201d calorie burning while dulling hunger pangs.<\/p>\n

Existing weight-loss jabs only suppress appetite, whereas the new treatment also speeds up metabolism.<\/p>\n

The new drug is still undergoing clinical trials so it’s not yet known if it will be made available on the NHS.<\/p>\n

She recalled complaints from users that their skin is more sensitive to the sun, which she puts down to changes in the body’s metabolism and immune system.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, she reinforced that as a result of weight loss, skin can become thinner and more prone to sun damage, as she explained: \u201cThe combination of these factors can cause individuals taking the drug to be prone to sunburns or rashes, even when using sun protection.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWearing a high SPF and staying in the shade during the hottest days is recommended. This is important for people who have just undergone weight loss.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘Posture, shoe size and joint pain’<\/p>\n

Experts have also reported an increase in patients noticing changes to their feet, legs, hands and arms.<\/p>\n

One of the least expected areas is the feet.<\/p>\n

But, according to the experts, the fast loss of fat in these areas can cause discomfort and changes in posture.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The experts also recognised that some users have even said they have noticed they are now a different shoe size, which according to W<\/a>ebMD<\/a>, can be caused as a result of increased swelling in the feet. <\/p>\n

Many have even claimed to feel colder as their bodies adjust, as a result of the reduction in fat on the body.<\/p>\n

Additionally, fat jabs not only affect fat storage but also impact muscle mass due to the metabolic changes caused by weight loss.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The pros further acknowledged that this can leave people feeling weaker, less toned and make it harder to maintain strength in their arms and hands. <\/p>\n

‘Loose and deflated skin’<\/p>\n

Not only can fat jabs affect users posture and shoe size, but experts have also noticed their ability to impact skin, nails and hair too.<\/p>\n

Dr Emma has also noticed an influx in patients experiencing \u201cskin elasticity and sagging\u201d.<\/p>\n

She shared: \u201cFat loss in the face, torso, and arms can leave the skin looking loose and deflated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough some might think this is a positive outlook on successful results, it can leave individuals feeling self-conscious about their appearance as their natural body contours are no longer there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not only this, but she claimed that \u201cwhen GLP-1 thins the skin, it will start to sag\u201d.<\/p>\n

What are the other side effects of weight loss jabs?<\/p>\n

Like any medication, weight loss jabs can have side effects. <\/p>\n

Common side effects of injections such as Ozempic include: <\/p>\n

Nausea<\/strong>: This is the most commonly reported side effect, especially when first starting the medication. It often decreases over time as your body adjusts.<\/p>\n

Vomiting<\/strong>: Can occur, often in conjunction with nausea.<\/p>\n

Diarrhea<\/strong>: Some people experience gastrointestinal upset.<\/p>\n

Constipation<\/strong>: Some individuals may also experience constipation.<\/p>\n

Stomach pain or discomfort<\/strong>: Some people may experience abdominal pain or discomfort.<\/p>\n

Reduced appetite<\/strong>: This is often a desired effect for people using Ozempic for weight loss.<\/p>\n

Indigestion<\/strong>: Can cause a feeling of bloating or discomfort after eating.<\/p>\n

Serious side effects can also include:<\/p>\n

Pancreatitis<\/strong>: In rare cases, Ozempic may increase the risk of inflammation of the pancreas, known as pancreatitis, which can cause severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting.<\/p>\n

Kidney problems<\/strong>: There have been reports of kidney issues, including kidney failure, though this is uncommon.<\/p>\n

Thyroid tumors<\/strong>: There\u2019s a potential increased risk of thyroid cancer, although this risk is based on animal studies. It is not confirmed in humans, but people with a history of thyroid cancer should avoid Ozempic.<\/p>\n

Vision problems<\/strong>: Rapid changes in blood sugar levels may affect vision, and some people have reported blurry vision when taking Ozempic.<\/p>\n

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)<\/strong>: Especially if used with other medications like sulfonylureas or insulin.<\/p>\n

She acknowledged that the skin’s elasticity reduces over time and rapid weight loss can worsen this, as she added: \u201cIn some cases, individuals now consider cosmetic procedures that combine these aftermath issues, such as skin tightening or body contouring treatments, to restore a more natural look\u201d. <\/p>\n

Dr Emma has also spotted an influx in those reporting fluctuations in their nails and hair while taking the drug.\u00a0<\/p>\n

From the changes in nutrition, metabolism and weight loss, nails can become brittle, and hair is popularly known for thinning or falling out.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This occurs not just from fat jabs, but also from general weight loss, as people often forget to eat a balanced diet<\/a> and therefore miss out on vital nutrients.<\/p>\n

Dr Emma acknowledged: \u201cThese side effects are generally temporary, but they can be distressing for people trying to keep a healthy appearance.<\/p>\n

\u201cTry to ensure you have a balanced diet and add some supplements into your day to get rid of these side effects.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘Tooth decay, <\/strong>oral inflammation and bad breath’<\/p>\n

But there\u2019s also hidden side effects of taking fat jabs that many may not spot at first.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dr Sepideh recognised: \u201cMany are unaware that a hidden side effect of changing dietary habits and the body’s reaction to meditation can cause dry mouth, which can lead to plaque buildup and a high risk of tooth decay.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cGLP-1 causes changes in the way food is processed by the stomach, causing nausea, which can also affect the oral environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

When it comes to the teeth and mouth health of those on fat jabs<\/a>, Dr Sepideh acknowledged that \u201cthe decrease in fat can impact areas of your mouth\u201d, which can be seen in oral inflammation and dryness, as well as changes in taste or swallowing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As a result, she advised: \u201cUsers of GLP-1 need to obtain strong dental care to avoid long-term issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMake sure you speak to your dentist about this, as they will be able to provide a detailed care plan for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also spotted a very new symptom that has come to light recently, which includes changes to the tongue – through swelling, scalloped edges, persistent changes in taste and a coated appearance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And according to her, some describe the ‘GLP-1 tongue’ as an uncomfortable, burning sensation and have reported experiencing a metallic taste.<\/p>\n

Not only this, but Dr Sepideh revealed that many celebs have found themselves victims of the brutal \u201cOzempic aftermath\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe may begin to notice tooth sensitivity, gum recession, bad breath, an increased risk of cavities<\/a>, and mouth ulcers or sores.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is all down to the drug’s reaction, which causes dry mouth, reduces saliva production, which is essential for your mouth to wash away food particles, neutralises harmful acids, helps fight bacteria, and keeps oral tissue hydrated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additionally, she reflected that The Real Housewives of Orange County<\/a> Star, Emily Simpson has confessed that Ozempic made her feel awful as “nothing tastes good”.<\/p>\n

When it comes to emotional fluctuations, the experts recognise: \u201cOne of the most common side effects is that the medication impacts mood – some users have reported feeling anxious<\/a>, irritable and have even seen some depressive symptoms.\u00a0<\/p>\n
