As of yet, neither of us has received a call. At what point should we be getting worried that they haven&#8217;t called us?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Martin responded: \u201cI\u2019ve had calls in to the DWP about this and I\u2019ve had half an answer, I\u2019m still waiting on the other half. The basic answer is they\u2019re prioritising people at State Pension age, or near State Pension age so that they will get their uplift straightaway &#8211; or as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe younger you are, the further away you are from State Pension age you are, the lower down the queue you will likely be. Should you be worried? No.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He continued; \u201cSome people are getting calls now, but many people haven\u2019t had calls. What I haven\u2019t had an answer from the DWP is, how long this process is likely to take &#8211; my guess is it could be another three or four months so I wouldn\u2019t be panicking yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The financial guru added that he will post updates from the DWP on his social media channels as soon as he has them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He added: \u201cThe truth of it is, as long as you made the call before the 6th of April deadline, once the DWP calls you, you\u2019re still going to be able to get it within the cut-off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">People were able to buy missing NI years going back as far as 2006 before the April deadline, now they can only buy voluntary NI contributions going back six tax years &#8211; to 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It\u2019s important to be aware that plugging NI gaps can only help boost payments for those who reached State Pension age after April 2016 who are not in receipt of the full weekly rate of the New State Pension &#8211; now worth \u00a3230.25 per week, or those under the current State Pension age of 66.<\/p>\n<p>How to get any New State Pension payment<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You will need at least 10 qualifying years on your National Insurance record to qualify for <strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">any<\/strong> State Pension, but they don\u2019t have to be 10 qualifying years in a row.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">This means for 10 years at least one or more of the following applied to you:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">you were working and paid National Insurance contributions<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">you were getting National Insurance credits for example if you were unemployed, ill, a parent or a carer<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">you were paying voluntary National Insurance contributions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If you have lived or worked abroad you might still be able to get some New State Pension.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You might also qualify if you have paid married women\u2019s or widow\u2019s reduced rate contributions &#8211; find out more about this on the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/reduced-national-insurance-married-women\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"GOV.UK website here.Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">GOV.UK website here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>How to get full New State Pension payments<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The first thing to understand is that the term <strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">&#8216;full&#8217;<\/strong> means the maximum amount of New State Pension a person can receive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You will need around <strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">35 qualifying years<\/strong> to receive the full New State Pension if you do not have a National Insurance record before 6 April 2016 &#8211; this may be more if you were &#8216;contracted out&#8217;, find out more <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/contracted-out\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"here.Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">For people who have contributed between 10 and 35 years, they are entitled to a portion of the new State Pension, but not the full amount unless they buy additional NI years.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifying years if you are working<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">When you are working you pay National Insurance and get a qualifying year if:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">you\u2019re employed and earning over \u00a3242 a week from one employer<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">you\u2019re self-employed and paying NI contributions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You might not pay National Insurance contributions because you\u2019re earning less than \u00a3242 a week. You may still get a qualifying year if you earn between \u00a3123 and \u00a3242 a week from one employer &#8211; find out more <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/national-insurance-rates-letters\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"here.Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Qualifying years if you are not working<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You may get National Insurance credits if you cannot work &#8211; for example because of illness or disability, or if you\u2019re a carer or you\u2019re unemployed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">You can get National Insurance credits if you:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">claim Child Benefit for a child under 12 (or under 16 before 2010)<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">get Jobseeker\u2019s Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">receive Carer\u2019s Allowance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are not working or getting National Insurance credits<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You might be able to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions if you\u2019re not in one of these groups but want to increase your State Pension amount. Find out more on the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/voluntary-national-insurance-contributions\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">GOV.UK website here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What if there are gaps in your National Insurance record?<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You can have <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/voluntary-national-insurance-contributions\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"gaps in your NI recordLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">gaps in your NI record<\/a> and still get the full New State Pension. You can get a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/voluntary-national-insurance-contributions\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"State Pension statementLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">State Pension statement<\/a> which will tell you how much State Pension you may get.
