A place to sit down and think and watch \u2013 and\u00a0enjoy a strongish espresso\u00a0\u2013 is more important to me than museums, monuments, temples, churches and, even, restaurants.<\/p>\n<p>How many cups of tea\/coffee should you drink a day?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nowhere quite represents a place like its caf\u00e9s. What would\u00a0Vienna,\u00a0Rome\u00a0and\u00a0Paris\u00a0be without theirs?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s not just the history or the opulence. It\u2019s the window on the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The top 50 best caf\u00e9s in the world<\/p>\n<p>The best caf\u00e9s in the world, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/travel\/advice\/the-greatest-cafes-in-the-world\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:The Telegraph;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">The Telegraph<\/a>, are:<\/p>\n<p>Swansea caf\u00e9\u00a0named among the best in the world<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kardomahcafe.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Kardomah;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Kardomah<\/a> &#8211; Morris Buildings, 11 Portland St, Swansea &#8211; has been named among the best caf\u00e9s\u00a0in the world by The Telegraph, the only place in Wales to make the list.<\/p>\n<p>It ranked 13th on the list and was described as a &#8220;golden oldie&#8221; providing a &#8220;nostalgia fix&#8221; for its visitors.<\/p>\n<p>The Telegraph said: &#8220;Not the original Swansea Kardomah \u2013 Hitler put paid to that in 1941 \u2013 but it feels and looks like it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Opened in 1957, this wonderful, spacious, family-friendly caf\u00e9-restaurant still has original wood panelling, tiled floor and deco-ish reliefs, providing a nostalgia fix for its many senior clients.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As further proof that caffs are about time-travel, Doctor Who used the Kardomah as a location and Russell T Davies has been spotted sipping here.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The old Castle St &#8216;Kardomah Gang&#8217;\u00a0included Dylan Thomas, Alfred Janes and Vernon Watkins; this one is frequented by the people they wrote about and painted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The nostalgic, South Wales caf\u00e9 is also a hit with its guests, boasting\u00a0a 4.5 (out of 5) rating on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.co.uk\/Restaurant_Review-g186466-d3480002-Reviews-Kardomah-Swansea_Swansea_County_South_Wales_Wales.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Tripadvisor;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Tripadvisor<\/a> from 255\u00a0reviews.<\/p>\n<p>One visitor to\u00a0Kardomah said: &#8220;Been here for years would 100% recommend it. Tea cakes the size of plates, and fabulous coffee. Can\u2019t ask for anything more.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another person added:\u00a0&#8220;Used to come here with my parents 40 years ago. It&#8217;s exactly how I remember it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Spent an hour here waiting for an appointment and had eggs on toast end endless coffee refills.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Lovely staff. Knocks spots off Starbucks and the like. This would be my coffee local if I still lived in Swansea.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>RECOMMENDED READING:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While a third person commented: &#8220;The absolute BEST PLACE. Food is delicious, the homemade Cawl is the best I ever tasted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The service is fast and friendly, consistently excellent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Totally quirky inside. Just perfect in every way.
