Jurgen Klopp had reportedly set his sights on bringing Jadon Sancho<\/a> to Liverpool<\/a> following his side’s spectacular 2019\/20 Premier League<\/a> title win. The charismatic leader, who brought a golden era to Borussia Dortmund<\/a> ahead of his tenure at Anfield, spotted an immense talent in Sancho and seemed eager to bring the young ace to the north west.<\/p>\n

Sancho, now 25, signed his inaugural deal with Dortmund in 2017 after rising through the youth ranks of Manchester City. <\/a>And Klopp’s<\/a> intimate knowledge of BVB, where he reigned supreme from 2008 to 2015, may have fuelled his interest in keeping an eye on the club’s talents, including Sancho. Sporting an impressive record for Dortmund with 30 goals and 39 assists in Bundesliga in his first three seasons, the England star was the subject of fervent transfer speculation.<\/p>\n

And during the summer of 2020, Klopp shared his admiration of the prodigy in a chat with Bild Sport<\/a>. He said: “A red jersey would look very good on Jadon Sancho.”<\/p>\n

However, the German seemed pragmatic about the reality of the move materialising, adding: “But I don’t think such a transfer will take place this summer. He is a very interesting player. If he moved to Liverpool<\/a>, I would be the most surprised of all.”<\/p>\n

Sancho remained in Germany for another year, adding eight more goals and a dozen assists to his tally before making a high-profile \u00a373million move to Manchester United<\/a> in 2021. However, the silver lining for Liverpool<\/a> supporters is that Sancho has struggled to find his footing in the Premier League since.<\/p>\n

He only managed to score nine goals and provide six assists in the English top flight during his first two-and-a-half seasons with United<\/a>, before returning to Dortmund on a six-month loan in January 2024. After a brief stint back in the north west, Sancho was loaned out to Chelsea<\/a> last August for the entirety of the 2024\/25 season, with the Blues having an obligation to pay \u00a325m to make the winger’s move permanent for securing a finish within the Premier League’s top 14.<\/p>\n

However, it’s telling that they are reportedly contemplating paying the \u00a35m penalty to avoid making his move permanent this summer. In his 40 appearances across all competitions this season, Sancho has only managed to score four times and provided 10 assists for his team-mates, as he continues to struggle with the pace of English football.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Klopp bid farewell to Liverpool<\/a> at the end of last season, with Dutchman Arne Slot<\/a> taking the reins. It’s been a dream debut season for the 46-year-old, who clinched the Premier League title with four games to spare following a 5-1 demolition of Tottenham<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n

The Reds will officially hoist the trophy on home turf after their final match of the season against Crystal Palace<\/a> on Sunday, with a full house expected at Anfield. The scenes will be a stark contrast from five years ago, when Jordan Henderson<\/a> and his team-mates were compelled to lift the trophy in an empty stadium due to coronavirus<\/a> pandemic restrictions.<\/p>\n

This time, however, Liverpool<\/a> will celebrate in style with an open-top bus parade through the city scheduled for Monday. Hundreds of thousands of Liverpool<\/a> fans are anticipated to line the streets of Merseyside when the tour departs from Allerton Maze at 2.30pm on Monday.<\/p>\n
