to give an update on when <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">New Street station&#8217;s<\/a> LED screens will be turned back on &#8211; despite already being off for years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The three digital screens, which all resemble Sauron&#8217;s Eye, are likely among the first landmarks that visitors notice when arriving into the city by train.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Or at least they would be if they were ever switched on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">READ MORE: <\/strong><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/anger-birmingham-fountains-flagship-square-31641549\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Anger as Birmingham fountains in flagship square switched off for 18 months<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The media eyes, located at the station&#8217;s three main entrances, have not generated adverts for years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">We understand its has been lights out on two of them since 2023 and even longer for the screen by Station Street, where John Lewis once stood proudly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">They join a list of other key Birmingham landmarks &#8211; such as Chamberlain Square and Centenary Square fountains &#8211; not currently in operation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1748094371_852_0_LEDSCREEN.jpg\" alt=\"New Street's LED screens - which greet visitors to the city - have been switched off for years\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>New Street&#8217;s LED screens &#8211; which greet visitors to the city &#8211; have been switched off for years(Image: Reiss Omari)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/anger-birmingham-fountains-flagship-square-31641549\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Both fountains have run dry<\/a> and The River, better known as the &#8216;The Floozie in the Jacuzzi&#8217;, is only managing to dribble out water.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Hammerson, owners of the Bullring, also own the huge LED screens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It told us earlier this week it was &#8216;undertaking a review of media assets&#8217;, including the screens, but that it wasn&#8217;t &#8216;in a position at this stage&#8217; to give an update on &#8216;timings&#8217; of when they might be switched back on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Network Rail said it is solely Hammerson&#8217;s responsibility to manage the screens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It is not clear if the screens need repairing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Brummie Reiss Omari has campaigned for years for the media eyes to be plugged back in &#8211; telling his followers on social media that &#8220;<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham<\/a> deserves better&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Referring to the eye closest to Station Street, he said: &#8220;Four years since this been turned off.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He continued: &#8220;It has to be at least two years since the other two screens were on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Imagine doing doing this in London? I think not.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Do you miss the screens being on?
