{"id":128261,"date":"2025-05-24T14:54:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-24T14:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/128261\/"},"modified":"2025-05-24T14:54:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-24T14:54:09","slug":"ruben-amorim-informs-manchester-united-squad-hes-staying-tells-alejandro-garnacho-to-find-new-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/128261\/","title":{"rendered":"Ruben Amorim informs Manchester United squad he\u2019s staying, tells Alejandro Garnacho to find new club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ruben Amorim has informed his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/football\/team\/manchester-united\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manchester United<\/a> squad he will remain in charge next season \u2014 while telling Alejandro Garnacho to find a new club.<\/p>\n<p>Following Wednesday\u2019s Europa League final defeat by Tottenham Hotspur the Portuguese head coach\u00a0<a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6373579\/2025\/05\/21\/man-united-europa-league-amorim-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6373579\/2025\/05\/21\/man-united-europa-league-amorim-future\/\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\">offered to walk away from Old Trafford without any compensation<\/a>\u00a0if the board and fans no longer felt he was the man for job.<\/p>\n<p>He has repeatedly insisted he will not quit despite United staring at their worst finish of the Premier League era. With one game of the season remaining \u2014 against Aston Villa on Sunday \u2014 they sit 16th in the top-flight table.<\/p>\n<p>Sources with knowledge of the matter, speaking anonymously to protect relationships, indicate Amorim addressed players at the club\u2019s Carrington training ground on Saturday to inform them of his own plans and, in front of the group, of those for Garnacho.<\/p>\n<p>Manchester United treat dressing room matters as private and declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>Garnacho hinted at frustrations with Amorim after only being introduced as a 71st-minute substitute in Bilbao, adding that he would \u201csee what happens\u201d after a summer break.<\/p>\n<p>Garnacho\u2019s brother, Roberto, also posted a pointed message on Instagram saying his sibling had been \u201cthrown under the bus\u201d by Amorim suggesting that Garnacho\u2019s miss against Athletic Club in the semi-final\u2019s second leg helped inform his call to start Mason Mount over him against Spurs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard for everyone. The season was s***, both now losing the final tonight, and in the league, where we didn\u2019t beat anyone, that\u2019s the truth,\u201d Garnacho told reporters. \u201cUp until the final, I\u2019ve played every round, and today to play 20 minutes\u2026 I don\u2019t know. I\u2019m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens after.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/5995281\/2024\/12\/15\/rashford-garnacho-manchester-united-dropped\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Garnacho was dropped alongside Marcus Rashford<\/a> for the Manchester derby in December before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6102456\/2025\/01\/31\/alejandro-garnacho-man-utd-amorim\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appearing to earn his manager\u2019s trust again and being reinstated.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Athletic reported in January he was one of the homegrown players \u2014 with fellow academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo \u2014 who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6044696\/2025\/01\/07\/manchester-united-mainoo-garnacho-transfer-chelsea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the club would reluctantly consider selling<\/a> as part of their efforts to comply with football\u2019s financial rules.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6059629\/2025\/01\/16\/alejandro-garnacho-napoli-manchester-united-transfers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">An approach from Napoli was later knocked back<\/a> and the deadline passed without a move before his reaction to being substituted against Ipswich Town in February saw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6166137\/2025\/02\/28\/manchester-united-garnacho-amorim\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amorim later reveal<\/a> he had paid for a team dinner by way of an apology.<\/p>\n<p>Garnacho joined United\u2019s academy from Atletico Madrid in October 2020 and has gone on to make 144 appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals and adding 22 assists.<\/p>\n<p>This season he has played 58 times in total, including featuring in all but one of the side\u2019s 37 Premier League games.<\/p>\n<p>Bruno Fernandes, who is the subject of interest from Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal, also suggested after the Europa League final that he is prepared to leave if the Old Trafford hierarchy decides to \u201ccash in\u201d on their club captain.<\/p>\n<p>When Amorim was asked in his final pre-match press conference of the season on Saturday whether he has sought to clarify Fernandes and Garnacho\u2019s futures since Wednesday night, he said: \u201cI will speak with my players but my focus is the last game. I don\u2019t know what is going to happen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a plan \u2014 we were prepared for both situations, with or without Champions League. We have an idea what type of squad we want.
