Raydell Lennox, aged 19, fired a weapon in Caludon Castle Park in Coventry after pulling up in a car at just after 10.15pm on October 21 last year.<\/p>\n

Lennox then fled the country but after inquiries West Midlands Police\u00a0<\/a>quickly identified him as a prime suspect.<\/p>\n

The car that he was thought to have been travelling in that night was found burnt out just over a week later.<\/p>\n

Lennox was arrested after his return to the UK and the 19-year-old, from Sandwell, was convicted of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life following a two week trial.<\/p>\n

\u00a0He was sentenced to 32 years imprisonment at Coventry Crown Court on May 19.<\/p>\n

The victim, aged in his 20s, suffered serious, life-changing facial injuries as a result of the shooting.<\/p>\n

Dc Rob Tilley, from the Major Crime Team, said: “This was a shooting at close range which has left a young man with significant injuries. We carried out extensive inquiries and we were able to link Lennox as being involved.<\/p>\n

“It’s unclear why Lennox fired the gun towards the victim, a strong line of inquiry has been it was mistaken identity.<\/p>\n

“Guns can destroy lives. Lennox will now spend many of his young days in custody.”<\/p>\n
